I think we need to invest in some for the ten ft windows in our living room, but I don't have a clue what to look for or where to look. ETA: The only thing we know is that we don't want cellular blinds.
As much as I love our tall windows, I think some privacy might be nice.
When I realized that I could see the television across the street and inside their refrigerator, I decided that some window coverings might not be a bad thing. lol
When it comes to motorized I'd try to stick with the more reputable brands. We're planning to get motorized shades for our LR someday because of the layout of the room we have to put our TV in front of some big windows. I've read a lot of reviews of broken motorized blinds and the nicer brands like Hunter Douglas seem to be rated better when it comes to support to fix them. There are two types of motorized. One that uses battery only and one that is hard wired. The hard wired ones are either cut and run into the walls or along the ceiling under crown moulding with a small amount of exposed wire down to the motor. We were focusing on battery operated ones so we didn't have to deal with tearing open walls and trying to find ways to hide junction boxes.
With windows that big you're options will be more limited. A natural woven roman and most likely a fabric roman that tall will weigh too much. The other problem with romans is how much space they take up at the top and how much they stick out when you have tall windows. Wooden slate blinds and faux ones will probably weigh too much to be motorized as well. You're best bet would be a sun screen. They make some nice fabric options and they roll up into a small space. They are very common for tall/large windows for all of those reasons.
