I like the new iphone for the camera but I may have the iphone 5. Is that out yet? lol. We just upgraded to the new phones a couple of months ago, H does it.
I never use siri though. Other than me and H asking her dirty questions, that's the only use it's served.

I have the iPhone4 (got it right before 4S came out) and I am perfectly happy with it. My ipad has Suri (I always thought it was Siri?) on it and I never use it. I'd go with the free phone!
I'm in the minority. I love Siri and use it every single day. It's so easy to ask her to remind me to do something when I get home, send a text, open an app, play a song. I have Bluetooth in my car and drive a lot, so it comes in handy. But DH shut his off, so I think I'm definitely the exception not the rule
I would upgrade simply because I think the 4 will become obsolete soon :/
I am also thinking about this. My H got the 5 in January and loves it, but I mean, he still had a Blackberry before so anything was an improvement from that. I just can't really drop $200 on a phone right now so I'm thinking about the 4S. But my H is all "get the 5, it's awesome!", so I'm torn.
I think a 4S would be worth it to be able to FaceTime when you're connected to 3G. You have to be on a wifi network to FaceTime with a 4 (which is what I have). But I use FaceTime a lot with my niece & ILs. It's annoying to be restricted to home for it.
My other, probably more important reason for suggesting 4S is because of the bad experience I had with my 3G. When the 4 was released, the software updates nearly bricked my phone. It froze connnnstantly, crashed, & wouldn't let me answer calls half the time. The old technology couldn't support the newer iOS releases. My friends with the 3GS didn't have as many issues. Because apple wants people to continue to get newer versions of things, they don't fully support the older models forever. I'm worried you'll be stuck with outdated hardware for 2 years if you go with the 4 now, after the 5 has been out for awhile & 5S is being released in the near future. The 4S would hopefully be able to keep up longer & last for the duration of your contract.
After my bad experience with pretty much being forced to upgrade from a 3G when the 4 came out, I won't buy older model iPhones anymore.

I just got the 4s (my first iPhone) and so far I like it. I was deciding between the 4 (free), 4s ($99), and 5 ($199). My friends told me to at least go with the 4s or 5 because there is suppose to be a new iPhone coming out so the 4 would be the most outdated. I decided on the 4s because if I didn't like it I would feel better about only spending $99 rather than $199.
Siri is not worth $100 IMO (Suri probably isn't either...girl looks high maintenance). I have the iPhone 5 and really only care about the camera on it, but I don't know if there's a difference in the cameras on the 4 vs. 4S.

I can get an iPhone4 for free or a iPhone4S for $100. Is it worth it?
We are on a fairly tight budget so for now a 5 is not an option. We currently each have an iPhone3GS so really anything is a huge improvement! :-)
Eta: We got the 3GS phones when they were $50. It's kind of our M.O. to buy older models for cheaper.
I would first double check that Apple will support the 4 for another two years. I know my H was having problems with apps not playing well with his 4 last fall, so he upgraded. He had already had the 4 for two years.

My kid summons siri all the time. It is really funny to listen to Siri try to figure out the random background noise/babble of a toddler. That's pretty much all I use her for.
