I think I'm about to help found the Long Island chapter of Baby Wearing International. I would have to take a class on baby wearing and take a test. Whut?
Hm... isn't the whole point of babywearing that you DON'T have to take a class or test and that it's supposed to be open to all and easy? Kind of silly that they would require that (even for a leader!), but good for you for starting a chapter!

I'm pretty sure the test covers safety and that wrapping is involved.

I guess that makes sense, maybe I am being silly about it :^) If you are an educator/leader it makes sense that you'd have to prove that you know what you are talking about.
BTW Cat - are you "out" w. the pregnancy on FB? I was just about to post something in response to your fb update on there but then I realized that people might not know...
The class and testing is more so they know that folks that are teaching others in their name are up to snuff. You don't have to pay for any of it - it a volunteer thing, but you are representing an organization and their standards. I was looking on their site earlier and apparently they frown on spelunking while baby wearing. LOL!

I'm outish. It's ok to talk about, but a lot of people don't realize.

hahahaha spelunking!!!! sad/scary that they would even have to mention that...
that is so cool. i wish i got more into wrapping, i just got stuck on the ergo. then again, i also didn't have hundreds to spend on pretty woven wraps either. babywearing is insanely cultish where i live - the good kind of cult though

I wish i had something like this. I first got the Moby, and was like WTF IS UP WITH THIS? Then i got the Bjorn, eh and then finally i got the Ergo which i love. It would have been nice to have a little help! Good for you.
That's awesome! I love babywearing and do think there's a need for education. The store I bought my wrap and carrier at (Metro Minis, RIP) required all of their staff to get certified in baby wearing safety from some German institute of strict baby rules. I thought they were too intense when I first went in, but now I appreciate all of the advice they gave me. My favorite was the kiss test - if you can't easily kiss the top of your baby's head, s/he's too low.
