This is sounding like it might be a UO then. I love weddings! They are so much fun!
I love weddings, too (with booze). I love getting dressed up, taking a weekend trip somewhere I might not have visited on my own, seeing friends and family, meeting new friends, drinking too much, talking to the groom's great aunt for too long as a result of said over drinking, and rehashing everything over brunch the next day.
In the nine years we've been together, we've had 6-8 weddings each year except one. We only have four this year and are a little sad about it.

I love drinking. I've never been to a dry wedding. I think cash bars are fine, but I'd appriciate a warning because I never have cash and there usually aren't ATMs at wedding venues!
DH's and my first date was at a cash bar wedding. I'd never been to one and I only had $10! I waited for my moment when all his buddies had drinks but he and I were empty so I just had to buy the two of us a round!

I think it's fine to not think it's necessary. It's not necessary but I do think it's nice to have it as an option. In your scenario, I would have had a few bottles of wine in case someone wanted one. It's fine if most of the guests don't drink but the few people that do probably would have appreciated it.
We also had some people who would have been really offended if we had served alcohol--like people who were offended we were dancing. We had to choose between giving a handful of people fun and offending close family and friends.
That and we were on a severely limited budget anyway, so it's not like we had extra cash to splurge on wine we weren't even going to be drinking.
Wait. People were offended you were dancing.... at YOUR OWN wedding? WHY?!!!??
This may have been discussed because this UO blew up.
I am highly allergic to most everything. I can't wear makeup. I have not found one (even the very expensive ones) that don't cause me to have breakout in hives.
I work in the corporate world and I think I look put together.
I'm sorry that there are people out there that feel that makeup is the only way to show your face to the world.

I never meant that I didn't think AJ should have the surgery or that she wasn't brave for making that decision. What bothers me is the crown that has risen above her head for making that decision and for the media thinking that this will open doors for more women to be brave enough to go ahead with the surgery. I think it has made more people aware of the option, but I bet it also was a slap in the face to the women who would gladly chop off their breasts in hopes it would prevent (or greatly reduce the risk of) cancer. But again, the average Jane cannot afford the initial surgery, let alone the reconsruction and implants. The average Jane cannot afford the amount of time off work or can't imagine taking that much time off of holding her own child. This is something that a single mom would have a very difficult time doing, and that decision is already on a lot of women's minds, but it's just not a feasable option. So instead, AJ is glorified for making that very hard decision while the rest of the moms/women/men feel like crap. I just hope the publicity tones down quickly.
We have some seriously religiously conservative friends and family. We also had to make a choice because the school we were attending has a ban on alcohol (and dancing, but again, that's not something I was willing to compromise on). If they had found out we had served alcohol, it could have put us and our friends who were still in college in a tight spot. Like to the point of getting kicked out. (not my favorite part of the college, but overall it wasn't a bad experience) I was willing to argue my right to dance, but just didn't care enough about alcohol to put my friends' college education in jeopardy.
I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I promise! I just had never heard of that before. I completely understand the choices you made.
Trust me, I'm used to it. I had some people in my doc program (grown, middle aged women who should know how to be polite) laugh at me and tell me it sounded like a muslim school. I realize it's really odd to most people and I'm cool with that.
Some people are anti-dancing because there are some dances with sexual components to them. They kind of put the kibosh on all of it because of those. For me, I say just be tasteful and you're fine. There's nothing in the Bible that bans dancing; in fact, there are specific examples of people dancing in joy, and that's exactly how I was going to explain it to anyone who confronted me over it.
I think no alcohol at weddings is a bummer but what's worse is a cash bar. IMO, if you can't afford to cover alcohol, don't have any at all. Only supply what you can afford.

When I hear about someone who doesn't wear makeup, I automatically assume they must be prettier than me and have better skin. I am so very thankful I get to wear makeup. I have dark circles under my eyes and get zits sometimes. Makeup is fun! And expensive :-(
Didn't Christina Applegate have a preventative double mastectomy too?
Oh, I did think of something that annoyed me about the media coverage re AJ. The fact that they were all "SHOCKING NEWS." Really? Shocking? I don't know about that. Something about it rubbed me the wrong way.
Yes, I think she did a lumpectomy then found out she had the gene and did the mastectomy.

I think I remember the Christina Applegate thing. But she didn't have big boobs to begin with and wasn't a sexpot so it didn't matter (end sarcasm)

@hopefuljen - when I worked in public relations I would go to work right after the gym. I had a 36 mile commute to work, but in so cal traffic, I would have to leave by 6:30 to get to work at 8. So, I woke up at 4:45 and left by 5. Leaving so much earlier, I was able to drive down to where my work was and go to the gym. I was there by 5:40! I had enough time to work out (train for my marathon and lift weights) and shower. But, I didn't have enough time to dry my hair. I went to work every day with minimal/sometimes no make up and wet hair in either a braid or a bun.
Now, if we had clients coming in or if we traveled to a client for a meeting, then I obviously did my hair and make up.
Then, I would leave work between 5-6 and not get home until 6:45 at the earliest....sometimes it was even 8. Commuting sucks the life out of you and makes you really ragey!

I have crappy skin, dark circles and rarely wear make up. It's just not my thing. Never has been, never will be.
I think cash bar is tacky but it's way better than no alcohol!
See, I have been to a few weddings with a bar at the venue you could use but not at the actual reception. That doesn't bother me. The ones that do are the ones that have paid to set up an actual bar at the wedding. It just bothers me. I'm a greedy bitch, lol.

I don't like her and still don't.
I looked into the genetic screening to see if I carry the gene, but I do not have lots of risk factors (just my grandmother). If I carried it, I would absolutely have the surgery (of finances allowed).
My BFF had the surgery and implants put it, she is 32. It ended up being three procedures and a very big deal. She got nipples tattooed on her and there was a news story ran on her. I am so proud of her and the decision she made. She will also have a hysterectomy when she is done having kids. Her insurance did cover it.

Oh stop it. You are beautiful!! You don't need makeup!
I kind of wish I hadn't started wearing makeup when I was 12, because now I feel weird going without it. Yes, I have worn a full face almost everyday for the past two decades. I don't think I have ever come to work without makeup.
I would get asked over and over, are you tired? Haha
Please don't invite me to the wedding. I'm not a big drinker but we did open bar. It was great.
Also, Herpes (MIL for those that don't know) didn't have dancing nor alcohol back in 1964. She lamented about it every single chance she got. Her sons threw them a suprise 40th "reception" since she never got one and she still was ungrateful.

I started wearing makeup around 12. My mom put it on me. Ever since then, if I don't have a full face of makeup and she sees me, she asks when I'm going to do it.

Jolie and Pitt have the best publicist in the biz. I'm not saying that Angie isn't a good person, but so much of what they do is communicated at very strategic times and their publicist really knows how to work it to make it all seem natural.
Maybe that's my UO. I like watching the Duggars....
Considering the Duggars are anti pants for girls, I'd be shocked if they were in favor of dancing.
My grandma doesn't like girls in pants, and she drinks straight gin! She's Catholic and very religious, but not particularly otherwise conservative. I'm pretty sure she doesn't mind dancing.

I think when it comes to your health the more you know the better. I'd definitely get genetic testing. There is no such thing as knowing too much about your own body.
I got one that people might not like. I think that if you work in a professional corporate office, you should wear make-up to work. I think it's unprofessional not to look put together.
I find this to be really...gross.You judge a woman's professional capabilities on make up? I'm fine with this if the men are held to the same standards. Oh wait! Men are good enough as they are. We should work harder to set ourselves apart in male dominated industries, accept less pay, and spend exponentially more time and money on our physical appearances.

Obviously not everyone fits the category, but the Duggars are about as conservative as you can get without their girls wearing headscarves. That's the only point I was trying to make.

But see, you did say that days you were meeting with Clients that you did do your hair and make-up. Some people do look fine without it. I am not one of those people.
