I'm trying to decide what to do with the 25 bare windows in my new construction home. Right now, I have temporary paper blinds hanging for privacy in the bedrooms and bathrooms. The rest of the house is WIDE open to the neighborhood! I am anxious to get some privacy, so those will be covered first. For a few of the rooms that do not face the front of the house (master bedroom and family room both face the back), I have decided on natural/woven roman shades and possibly white panels, if anything. White faux wood blinds for the bathroom (which faces the back). My question is....for all of the windows that face the front of the house, is it best to have the same or similar-looking treatments to create a uniform look from the street? Here are the windows that face the front:
formal living room - I want a more formal look in here....just not sure what. Maybe panels with sheers will provide enough privacy?
my 2 year old son's room - I had picked out white fabric roman shades from PBK (Harper shade), but am not married to them
master closet - I'm okay with white faux wood so I can get some natural sunlight and privacy
cathedral-height foyer (2) - right next to the master closet window - wanted to leave these bare, but they are directly next to the master closet window (so it looks like 3 right in a row) - will it look weird to only have one set of blinds and 2 others bare?
powder room (small window) - also okay with white faux wood for light/privacy
garage - decorative window high above the garage door -will leave this bare as it's hard to access
Would it look strange to have some windows bare, some with white roman shades, some with panels and some with blinds - all in the front of the house?
This question gets asked occasionally and I think the consensus is to have the front of the house uniform - I know that's my vote.
I personally would put up faux wood blinds in every window immediately and then spend the eons it'll take to find nice window treatments. We've used these in a couple houses and they're very good quality and come in more ready-made sizes than most brands. www.walmart.com/ip/Canopy-2-Faux-Wood-Blinds-White/15435508
I like the look of white faux wood blinds in all windows (bedrooms and casual rooms) and then whatever curtains you like. For the windows that don't have white blinds I backed my curtains with a white panel (buy a cheap set from walmart and hang them along with your curtains) to get the same exterior look but have something that matches your room.
THR is wise. I'd just wood blind them all and then decide on window treatments later. However, if you want to throw a Roman shade or two in the mix I think it's fine..esp. for bedrooms. I think it just gets weird when you start throwing in curtains, metal blinds, wood blinds, drapes, vertical blinds, paper blinds, cellular shades, rollers shades etc. I think one or two options can still be uniform.
This isn't a thing for me. I have a center hall colonial- so we're talking 4 identical windows down and 5 up. Currently my LR and DR have very different window coverings. DR has London shades, LR have a single drawn panel and an embroidered sheer cafe.
DS's room has panels, mine has faux wood blinds and the hall has faux wood and a set of panels.
