I really want to lose some poundage. I figure, eat better and work out right? But how do you change your brain? I think about it EVERYDAY but actually doing it... that is a whole different story.
I would pick one small relatively easy thing to do and do it for a month. Then add another and build on your success, then another. This is how I learned how to keep my house relatively clean (via flylady.com) and I'm sure it would work for other self-control areas of life as well.
Maybe start with something like no snacks after a certain hour (8pm?). I do this now and at first I would go brush my teeth at 8 as a disincentive to eat anything else later. You could also do something like drinking 64 oz of water every day.
My kick start was participating in a weight loss competition on another board. We all put in $20 and the two winners split the pot (one for inches and one for % lbs). I didn't win since I got injured (I was really close before that happened too :sad face:), but it helped me lose the first 20 lbs and really evaluate my diet. My neighbor asking me if we are having another baby while pointedly looking at my distended belly also helped. I think you really have to find something to motivate you.

I love stickers and I love crossing things off of lists so I've previously helped motivate myself with a printed out calendar month that I could either put stickers on or cross off days that I met my goal.
Since the 8pm thing is now a habit with me, my new thing is working to reduce the amount of meat we eat each week as a family, but that's mainly via meal planning and less of a daily thing.
I think she is training for a race, but peeling off these suckers would totally convince me to do my new habit-of-the-day. I used to teach dance so motivating others is something I get really excited about . I miss working with my students!!

I am challenged by mess and cleaning. I just looked at Fly Lady. By day 2 she wants my sink to be clean always and for my hair to be done. DH cleans the sink and I officially do my hair 1-3 times a year. I could never succeed at this. LOL.

Oh, my sink isn't clean every day and I haven't brushed my hair since Sunday . I pick and choose what I take from her. Her "getting started" guide strikes me as reaching out to women potentially suffering from depression, hence there's a lot of focus on taking care of yourself as well as your home. I will admit that now that I work from home, I'm more productive on days I change out of my PJs...
I was subscribed to her email list for about 3 years and in that time some of what she teaches sunk in. The ones that have stuck with me are just putting 15 minutes towards a project that seems insurmountable and the morning and evening routines. Most of the time those "insurmountable projects" are nearly done after 15 minutes. I live by my morning and evening routines. They're not long, but they make things soooo much smoother. Oh, and I meal plan, that's one of her big things too. My absolutely favorite part is how she approaches holidays. She gives you a small assignment each day for most of November/early December and then you're totally done before most people even begin scrambling around. It's awesome.

For me, she's kind of like my mother, but unlike my mother I don't get upset when she nags me because she's not really my mother. Actually I think of her like the fairy god mother in Cinderella when all the animals swoop in and industriously finish all the chores. After a while, some of her sayings rub off. "You can do ANYTHING for 15 minutes!"
The only way I can lose weight is to count calories. If I don't do that, I can't mentally get into it. I use myfitnesspal and track everything, it is a huge pain, but it produced results and the results I saw made it worth it.
