My 1 yr old would love that. As long as you know that she has a good place for it, I'd say that's a good pick. Other favorites right now - wheely ride-on toys, plastic slide / climbing structure, play kitchen... basically anything that's huge, plastic and obnoxious. lol

The water table is a great idea, if they have room for it.
The only thing that my DS1 got for his 1st birthday that he still plays with is his Fisher Price bubble mower. He still gets out there and "mows" with Daddy.

Crap, it was a great idea! My friend bought one a few weeks ago for the kids. I have absolutely no ideas on what else to get. What do 1 year olds play with?
Honestly, there is very little that a 1 year old needs and they won't remember it anyways. Not to mention, parents usually don't want more crap around the house anyways. For first birthdays, we donate to our niece/nephew's college fund and get an outfit or something small. As they get older and more active we get them something they will be more interested in.

DS loved blocks and balls and still does. Maybe you can make him a basket or something of different small things like that..maybe throw in some squishy pool balls for summertime. Books, or a little ball and bat set? I'm into things that aren't electronic and don't make noise!
