I'm reading His Majesty's Hope, the newest Maggie Hope mystery, and Wesley the Owl, a nonfiction book about a biologist who adopts a orphan owl and raises him. Both are good so far.
QOTW: I ask because right now I'm listening to drilling and sanding from my basement, where we're having foundation work done. It is not easy to ignore. I prefer quiet when I read and don't really like background noise other than nature sounds -- waves, wind, rain, that sort of thing is fine.
I'm reading Girls in White Dresses by Jennifer Close. It is a cute, easy read.
It depends on the distraction. I can read pretty easily in the car, plane, etc. Sometimes if I'm reading on the couch and DH is watching tv I have problems concentrating.
I just finished The Age of Innocence. Edith Wharton was entertaining as usual. Next I'm joining the classic Russian readers with The Brothers Karamasov by Dostoevsky, but I also need to bring another book in paperbook form on my long weekend for the take offs and landings.
I get annoyed at distractions and usually remove myself from the situation or switch my attention to whatever else is catching my attention.

A few chapters into Inferno, it's different than the last book. I haven't made up my mind yet about it. Need to finish by the end of next weekend since H wants to take it on his work trip so hope to have a much better review next week.
QOTW: I'm pretty good at tuning things out when I read, or split my attention - half listen to the tv while reading, etc.
The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Volente. Love it. I'm 1/3 done.
Depending on the book and my mood, I can sit in the living room with H watching TV and get absorbed into it. So I guess background stuff is fine. H trying to talk to me is not fine! But obviously I prefer quiet, so if I'm going to read I usually just go to bed.
I'm reading Jewels of the Sun, the first in the Gallaghers of Ardmore series by Nora Roberts.
QOTW: I hate distractions while reading. I don't mind background noises like the ocean, wind, rain, etc. If anything I enjoy those noises. I can tune out my husband's video games pretty easily too, as long as it isn't too loud. But music, TV, people talking/laughing, etc. are all distracting. I'm taking a trip next weekend and I'm worried I'll be on the plane next to a talker. I shove my nose in a book to read, people! Stop talking to me lol.

I'm still slogging through The Ninth Daughter. I have really hit a hard spot with this one and I feel bad about it because I thought I would enjoy it so much more. And to make it worse, I can't even really define what is making it such a chore to get through. It's an interesting mystery and there isn't an over abundance of description or anything, I'm just slogging.
QOTW: I can usually block out most things. When I was working I would take my book to a busy cafeteria/food court and I would disappear into the world of the book, the background noise ceased to exist. The only thing I cannot block out is the tv. I really can't even read in a room with the tv on, but interestingly waiting rooms, airport lounges, and bars are exceptions. I can block out the tv there, just not in a house.
I've just started Death by Water by Kerry Greenwood.
I usually read in bed at night because I get too distracted by the TV and my DH talking. Although usually DS is in the room with me so my reading is stop start.

I'm reading The Dinner by Herman Koch. I started it a week ago and I'm on page 30. Yeesh.
I'm pretty good with distractions--there's a ton of them on the Metro (where I do a ton of reading), but I can usually ignore. Two things really get me, though: high-pitched voices and chatty conductors. Those can knock me right out of any book.
I am reading When a Scot Loves a Lady - for my book club. It is what it is.
QOTW: like others I can ignore some stuff in a noisy environment (plane, restaurant), but it my house I prefer to be a quiet room, though I can ignore most DH noise (TV, podcast) if he is in a different room.
