My doctor wants me to do Prometrium progesterone suppositories to boost my progesterone levels in case that's the reason for my early losses. She mentioned that it can give you the the pregnancy-type side effects like moodiness, tiredness, etc.
I'm a little nervous about it because I was moody, anxious, and depressed on BCP and it all cleared up when I stopped taking hormonal BCP. So I'm not looking forward to starting a hormone regimen. Plus, I'm not really sure I have low progesterone anyway (my CD21 blood tests came back normal) so this could probably be pointless anyway.
Does anyone have any experience with progesterone? Can someone pat me on the head and tell me it's not a big deal?
I just started progesterone today (capsules inserted vaginally, not suppositories - I'm not sure if they are different). My doctor said to expect the same symptoms and I am nervous! I will keep you updated if I notice anything!
I am on Prometrium now, but I am actually pg so I'm not sure how much of my symptoms are from that. I did Endometrin (a different progresterone suppository) with my unsuccessful IUI cycles and when I started it I would get a few days of bloat and crampiness, but it wasn't that bad and it went away. It was very different than being on BC. I was a lunatic on BC, and the Endometrin didn't seem to mess with me like that.
I'm not a normal poster here but I just saw this and figured I can respond. I took progesterone orally starting at 6wks since I had some bleeding. My progesterone levels were lower than my OB liked so she put me on them to hopefully prevent a loss. Early losses run in my family too and I was very happy my OB was proactive. DS is now almost 2!
From what I can remember, I was fine on progesterone. I'm on BCP now and that makes me bonkers. GL!
I've been doing them for 2+ years. The only real symptom I get is tender breasts and rarely morning sickness like queasiness for the last day before my period. They have helped extend my LP by 2 days, but otherwise, don't know how much difference they make.

I used the suppositories for both IUIs and for IVF. I didn't find the symptoms to be too overwhelming or anything...mainly breast tenderness. Good luck, I hope this is the ticket for you!
I haven't used them before but I asked my doctor if I could use them this round and she said yes (I have only had one loss, at 8w). I figure I don't need them until my first beta in a couple of weeks.
