The group seems really nice. People were very friendly. I was nervous about it because meeting new people is kind of scary for me, and when I rolled in and saw like 50 people I was apprehensive. That's a lot all at once.
But I think it will be good, it was nice to have people to chat with. I was worried that everyone would be better than me, but that was not the case. I was NOT the slowest person there. Phew.
The actual run was pretty terrible. First, they said start time was 7:30. That already seems pretty late to me, wrt to the blazing NM sun. But by the time everyone was grouped, organized, stretched and announcements were read, it was like 8:15 before we actually got our feet on the trail. TOO MUCH SUN SO HOT! I am used to running in the dark or near-dark. So, like a big dummy, I brought the amount of water that I would need for a run like that in cooler darkness, and also picked a pace group that I could hang with in cooler darkness. This was foolish.
It's good for me to get used to running in those conditions, I just hate it and am a giant baby. I think they start doing earlier runs as the summer goes on, at least I hope they do, but in any case next week I am bringing double the water and starting with a slower group.
Good for you for putting yourself out there. I hate hate hate when group runs don't start on time. You would think with a bunch of type A runners people would arrive on time and start on time. For some reason, that never happens
I agree with you about the starting time - my running group starts at 7:50, fall - spring, then 7:30 in the summers. However, by the time the things you mentioned are done, we don't start til after 8. I do find that annoying. I'm a punctual person, lol!
