There has been a nasty sewage smell coming from the basement off and on for a while. There is one room that has old, dirty, gross carpet in it, and you can see a ring of where a drain is. I assumed the smell was coming from in there, so I decided its time to rip up that carpet.
I rip up the carpet and padding, and lo and behold, asbestos floor tile! That has a lot of cracked tiles. So while I was planning to find just concrete (like the rest of the basement), and leave the floor bare, I now need to recover the floor again.
There was a drain in the floor and it assaulted me with its stank.
So I need to put new flooring down because of the asbestos tile, but I want to leave access to the drain so that I can flush it with water every so often to keep it from being stinky again. Any ideas on what to do? It's about three feet from a wall and centered in the room, so not in a corner. Just leave a bare space? Maybe cover it with a floor register cover?
