Yup, I had surgery last June 24th. I tore my lateral meniscus. I went into surgery thinking it would be 3-4 days on crutches and a fairly "easy" recovery. When I woke up, I was told they found I had a discoid meniscus (a random birth defect usually found and corrected as a child) and that in addition to fixing the meniscal tear, they had to carve out and completely re-shape the rest of it. I spent nearly 4 weeks on crutches (couldn't/wasn't allowed to drive bc it was my right knee), spent 2 months in PT, and was finally cleared to resume full normal activity on December 20th. My situation was definitely not the norm, and not at all what I was expecting, but I am thankful I'm running again. I'm much slower, but I just ran a 10K on Saturday and my knee feels pretty good.
Yes - I think so. I had an MRI this morning and will know more on Thursday when I get the results from the doctor. He was pretty sure it was a radial menscious tear and severe because it has been very painful.
I'm so sorry to hear that! My fingers are crossed that you'll get good news on Thursday. If you do need surgery, I wish you a speedy and painless recovery!

I had surgery to repair a meniscus and ACL tear, so my situation was a little different too. I was on crutches for six weeks (probably because of the ACL) and then PT for 2ish months. The first week was rough because of the pain, but after that it was more just frustrating because of the crutches.
My one piece of advice is take it easy until you know you have completely healed. I went back to work teaching swim lessons after I got off the crutches. Unfortunately, I had to jump in on the shallow end to get a sibling that had fallen in and I jammed it pretty good. Although I did great through PT and got full mobility back, it never healed quite right.
