He was a single dad who's wife died in a car accident while 8 months pregnant. His daughter was supposed to be in the car, but a last minute change of plans, she didn't go with her mom. I met the daughter the first time when she was around 11. She told me this whole tragic story the first time I met her. Along with the obvious sadness for this girl, I kept wondering why she was telling me this, and more than that - why does she know this? It seemed like a lot for a little girl to take.
I think the dad told me the story three different times during casual conversation. It obviously messed them both up. He lived with his girlfriend and they fought like crazy. I knew he had a drinking problem, but the way he died had to involve more than alcohol. He ate a lightbulb. His poor daughter, she is just now finishing 8th grade and has so much happen to her.
I am hoping that she was just staying with the girlfriend to finish up school. I hope she has relatives that can take her and give her a stable home. The girlfriend is the type you see a couple times a week but never says hi or smiles.
All I could find was a one sentence obit on a website that looked as if they just made a death certificate into an obit. There wasn't anything in the local paper.
