I am doing my third 1/2 in Nov. I am still a newbie at this and while finishing is the goal, I am aiming to improve my time to 2:30 ... curious what guides people use to train.
I did a 10mile race just a few weeks before my 1/2 in April which worked out great.
How many miles should i be running a week to get better?
i be typing from me phone. typos and grammer dont count.
I am doing Philly as well and I am currently using a modified version of Pfitzinger's 5k PR plan to get me through the summer and maintain my base. I plan to run 16-25 miles a week over the summer while focusing on speed and strength training. I am basically alternating long runs of 6,8,10 for now. Once I get closer to the race I plan to use Pfitzinger's half plan.
I'm training for a race the week after Philly, and plan to use the Hal Higdon Novice 2, even though it is my first half. I'm thinking since I have some okay base mileage, I don't have to do the complete beginner program. Novice 2 seems like a good step up!

This is why you are doing Philly, you won't have to do really long runs till October.. Plus when it gets to race day you'll fly because you will be used to running in the heat.
