Long story short, we bought our house as a foreclosure and it still had some galvanized pipes in it, mostly leading to one bathroom. So we had a plumber in to replace the water lines with pex, which required tearing up the floor. Not a big deal since the bathroom needed retiling anyway. Plumbing lines replaced, we had a separate contractor come in to redo the bathroom. We gutted it, with the exception of the tub, so all the walls and floors were exposed.
After the water gets turned back on, the sink doesn't drain. Our contractor says, oh, its probably just clogged, run some drain-o through, you'll be good. We've drain-oed, baking soda and vinegared, plunged. Sink still very slow draining. We have a new plumber come in who tries to snake the drain. Tells us he feels like the pipe is rusted and if he tries too hard he'll poke a hole through the pipe. Doesn't actually take the sink apart to look at the drain.
Why on earth, when we had two separate contractors in, both plumbing licensed when the floors were exposed would they not suggest replacing the rusty galvanized drain pipe?!?!? What would have cost an extra $50 at the time will now have to include ripping out the floors we just had put in. Grr!!!
We may try yet another plumber who will come look at the drain again, with a camera, so we can really see what's going on. Hopefully there's some solution that is not ripping out the floors.
No question here, really just needed to vent it out.
I hope someone can find a non floor destrying solution for you.
We've been dealing with our own 'new' (to us) home repair/reno issues, and frustrations, so I can relate. Some day (hopefully soon), everything will be fixed and you will be able to enjoy your home.....at least that is what I keep telling myself.
