I'm so FREAKING TIRED of painting. And I've still got ... well, most of the house to do. This week I have to finish the upstairs bathroom dresser and the downstairs bathroom vanity. THEN this weekend I need to paint the guest bedroom on Saturday so that R can install the vanity/faucet on Sunday. MONDAY R and I are going to paint the kitchen walls.
I'm so burned out on painting. But after I finish those, I still have the master bedroom, R's office, the downstairs bathroom, the upstairs hall, the downstairs hall, the stairwell (which will NOT be fun due to ceiling height and steep stairs) and the two rooms that are the living area. When we finish THAT stuff, we move on to the outside of the house. Which is just ... ugh. I don't even want to think about it.
Sorry. I'm right there with you. I set small goals and try to get through those. Last night I was painting my kitchen cabinet bases and almost passed out because baby was positioned on an artery or something. I'm pretty over it.
I would consider hiring out the exterior. I've been getting quotes for mine. After painting 2 houses myself, I'll never do it again.

The bathroom downstairs and the guest bedroom are awful. The master bedroom is white and ... well, blah. The kitchen is also white but the walls are dirty and won't wash clean, so we'll be covering the stains.
I'm in a hurry because we have houseguests next weekend and I'd like to at least get the absolute WORST stuff done, although I'm prioritizing and I'll just let certain things go if I have to.
That sucks! I hate to paint. I painted my whole house the first..now 10 years later I'm hiring out what I want to change..I hate it that damn much..lol. It maybe easy, but it's a time consuming PITA.
I feel you. Big time.
Can you hire any of it out? It might be worth a check. I know everyone on here talks about how expensive painters are, but where I live, they're entirely affordable. I just quoted out 4 doors, a huge MBath, MBedroom. Mcloset and 4 PITA misc. closets in my house and my quote was $400.00 including paint. Worth it. He'll be in and out and take his crap with him in a day and a half.
And maybe just take a break before you kill yourself. You've been working hard. I'm sure you're friends just want to see you..they understand you JUST moved.

You ladies are great. I know that people come to see me/us, not the house, but it just feels so WRONG to let people see the house in its current state. LOL
It doesn't help that we have a to-do list that's 3 pages long, either. I just feel so much pressure to get everything done as soon as possible. Ugh.
I've found it very helpful to make a giant list of all that needs to be done and then make little weekly lists. That way I feel like we're chipping away. I definitely understand wanting to get it done, but I've been doing mini makeovers of each room in our new house to feel comfortable and will come back and finish later.
I think you need to leave some of the awful stuff undone so that people can get an idea of how much you have accomplished in such a short time.
They will be impressed with what you have done now, and when you are finished with the house, they will really be impressed since they saw where you started.

I posted when we were about to move in and asked how much painting I should try to get done right away. Lots of people said do it all right away, don't wait, I like to get settled and all unpacked in the first week, blah blah blah.
Well, let me tell you, that is not how it has gone, lol. Multiple rooms are still unpacked, exactly one room has been painted, and one bookshelf. I have paint for two more rooms and a bookcase and I have no idea when I will get those done because the kids are done with school in a week. Probably not until fall. I have one set of curtains up and the living room furniture consists of packing boxes for end tables.
So I feel your pain. After a month of eating takeout or leftovers, I had to prioritize actually cooking a meal most nights. And also my sanity.
I feel your pain too. I've only painted the living room, the kids bedrooms, their bathroom and a guest room. I still have to do a huge family room, the master bedroom, the long ass hallway upstairs, the powder room downstairs and the stairwell. and the kitchen - well I"m not even going to talk about that until we gut it. The exterior? Sheesh we need that painted too. But I'm hiring that out. I've painted exteriors before and it's not fun. I saw our neighbor have his house painted last fall - seriously it took the workers 2 days, then one guy came back the third day to touch up and do the final clean up. I just don't think I have the heart to tackle a project like that after seeing how quickly and beautifully the pros did it.
I got so burned out on painting and house stuff last summer/fall. I have done so little the first half of the year. I told myself I would take a break for a couple of months on house stuff - and look here we are in June and we've done nothing to the interior. We should do a trade - I'll come help you paint for a day if you come help me another day! LOL!

I think this is where I'm going to have to put my present stress. You are wise.
I had a chat with R last night about this very thing ... getting everything done and his part in NOT doing so (he's gotten distracted by other tasks that aren't really important) and hopefully we're on the same page again.

I agree. If I haven't said it already I will say it now - don't rush stuff. Your house doesn't have to be finished and perfectly renovated for house guests. Make sure you know what you want and do it right. Your guests will be impressed with all that you have accomplished so far.
We almost killed ourselves and each other trying to get the 2nd bath done before guests came, but eventually realized it wasn't going to happen. Once we came to terms with it we were so much more relaxes and happy.

I'd do this. Totally. Somehow working on someone else's house seems ... less awful than working on my own.

Sometimes it's good to have a houseguest deadline. We have that much to do and I haven't painted but the nursery, boy's bedroom, and upstairs bathroom b/c we don't have an actual deadline.
I hope you get a good chunk of it done. Do you have some audio books to listen to while you paint...might keep you interested?
