We always had the seat installed on H's bike when Anna was younger for that reason, lol. I was too scared. Then we got a double chariot and I was fine with that.
But we just got a trailer bike for Anna and attached it to H's bike, and I will attach a seat for Sophia on mine because it will be more fun for her than in the chariot trailer alone. I am scared though. If it is too scary I will go back to the trailer.
i think i would be okay with the trailer thing, because at least if i fell and the bike tipped sideways, the kid would be somewhat protected from road rash and with a helmet, their head would be more safe. but just a seat on the back?? omg, anxiety.
Jack tipped with the trailer once and it was NBD. H took a curb too sharp. They are strapped in, he had a helmet on and then you have all of the netting around them as well. It actually is pretty damn safe.
Also this is a good place to say I am OBSESSED with Charlotte. Like the only reason I check her blog is to look at that cute baby. The chub, the red hair, the funny faces. I can't handle it.
I would think that after all that she and her H have been through, she would be uber cautious and safety-conscious. Then again, maybe they feel like they've used up all of their bad luck for their lifetime.
We have a chariot and DD always wears a helmet. I know that as far as tips, etc, they are safe, but I also think it's generally good practice to get her used to wearing a helmet. She just got a balance bike and doesn't argue when we insist she wear one to ride - I think because she's been wearing a helmet in the Chariot since she was teeny.
Is this how her blog always is? Aside from the helmut issue, it seems boring as hell.
She was in a near fatal plane crash 3-4 years ago. Burned over 80% of her body. She survived and has wrote about recover, family recover etc. It has always been a bit boring, but that is the history. So many followers have been with her through that whole journey.
She is also Mormon and we all know how much Mormon's love to blog.
Oh, she's been called out plenty of times for her negligence when it comes to her childrens' safety. She's posted photos of her children sans seatbelt in the car. She also did a whole photo shoot of her children on a boat, and none of them wore life jackets. nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/2011/08/note-to-you-from-nie.html (note the kid all the way on the right, ready to take a slide right into the water)
I don't buy the whole survivor theory. And furthermore, if my husband just left me to burn in a plane, I would be seriously rethinking my marriage.

Life jackets would have totes ruined the photo-op. Duh.
WTF is she talking about, water patrol boats, lifeguards, and a frigging HELICOPTER? For her photo shoot, just so the shoot would look "more relaxed"? She is nuts.
Can someone fill me in about the H leaving her in the burning plane?
They had an agreement, like in general, that if possible they wouldn't both die. One person needed to come back to parent. So then, boom they were actually put to the test by being in a plane that crashed.
I don't know that doesn't draw a side eye from me. H and I have had similar conversations and have a similar agreement. If it looks dire for the other person save yourself for our kids. I know I know we are so noble.
They make helmets that small. When I got a helmet for my small headed kid at 18 months she was already in the third size up. (Our rule is that if it isn't a car or stroller, you wear a helmet. )
But I don't think I would ever bike with a infant. (unless it's with those cool trailer things...and still it would be iffy. My DH was injured severely from a bike accident when he was a baby.

My friend's FB status from a couple of days ago, "I just helped a man involved in a really bad bike accident. His helmet likely saved his life. Always wear a helmet. Life is precious." I thought of ML when I saw the status because of the @gypsy debacle a couple weeks ago. The whole damn family needs to invest in helmets.
