I love the necklace from Coldwater Creek you're wearing in today's OOTD. I'm thinking of ordering it. Can you tell me how you removed the rope and added chain instead to shorten it/change the look? That's what I'd be interested in doing if I got it but not sure how to go about it. Thanks!
Okay! Here's the step by step for ya! You'll need a jewelry pliers or a small needle nose pliers and some chain. Mine is from a roll I had leftover from another project. The roll is about $9.00 from Michael's. You can also get less chain for cheaper there, depending on how much chain you need.
First, here's the necklace with the rope attached. The rope is seriously 2x longer than it should be, unnecessary!
Its kinda hard to see in my pics (sorry!) but you can see that the rope is attached by wire and a ring:
You need to use the pliers to open up the ring that attaches the rope to the beaded section:
With both sides of rope removed, it looks like this. You can see the wire at the ends:
Here's the chain I used, nothing special!
You'll need to cut 2 sections of chain (one for each side). I just measured out where I wanted the necklace to fall on my neck and went from there to determine the length. I think mine are about 6 or 7 inches.
Next, take your chain section, and open up the last ring a little bit so you can attach it to the wire:
Then use the pliers to attach the chain to the wires and carefully squeeze it shut:
You'll then want to detach the clasp from the rope the same way you did earlier:
