So last June I signed up for the gym. I paid $35./month with child care. (I remember asking if that included both kids- bc before it was $10per child)
i slacked since the January and have only been a few times since without the kids.
came in today and they told me that I didn't have child care on my plan. Apparently when I signed up the state of Florida had some law that certain places couldn't charge for day care. While I ultimately don't believe that the gym child care is a daycare. The state of Florida apparently considered it one (until the gyms fought and won that fight)
Anyway when I signed up they charged me racket ball fees as a cover to get the money for child care (the lady admitted that to me when I came in. She would have been fine if she just left it as we couldn't charge but now we can so its going to an extra $10.)
she canceled my rackett ball court access ($5 month) and added child care( $10)
i don't really care about the money it just seems sketchy.
Its a big gym (la fitness)
sorry if this doesn't make much sense I'm on the lazy bike. Would this annoy you? I'm already irritated today so that happening made me all confrontational lol (I'm such a pansy so really I just let them know I thought it was shady
I kinda feel like all gym memberships are scammy, the constantly change/add fees.
I'm confused though, about what they are charging or not charging now?
Before I was getting charged for gym and racket ball court access(i knew this I just thought that it was some sort or bundle price thing) and I thought I was being charged for child care.
now I'm getting charged for gym and child care ($5 extra a month.. Not about the money)
im just annoyed that they were all oh yeah we weren't legally allowed to charge for child care so we made you pay for racket ball instead as a way to get child care $$..

Soooo, they were charging racquetball fees because they couldn't have childcare fees on the books. And now that the gyms fought that (stupid) law and won they can charge a childcare fee. Is that right?
Yeah, it's kinda sketch, but I'd let it go.
And I wish we had a local gym that offered childcare because I would be at the gym every day.

It's sketchy, but I'm guessing it's technically legal. Mostly because they weren't charging you for daycare, so they were compliant with the law there. Also, they told you they were charging another fee that you probably could have fought at the time (the racquetball access), but chose not to.
