I'm moving Saturday. The last time I used the self-cleaning option on an oven, the smoke/smell was awful. Would it be a bad idea to set the self cleaner and then leave the house while it cleans after we have our stuff moved out? This would be ideal to avoid the smell and smoke but I don't know if I need to worry about the house catching fire.
The landlords house is 50 feet away if that makes a difference (they could see the house catching fire and call 911 I guess?)
Alright that's what I thought. I typically clean it with vinegar and baking soda but it doesn't get EVERYTHING so I wanted to do that but I'll just clean it the usual way. When I did it at my last house it made all the furniture stink, it was awful.

How dirty was that oven compared to the one you have now? That will make a big difference in smoke/smell. All self clean does is heat the oven to a million degrees to basically turn to char any crap that is in there. If it isn't that dirty it won't make a ton of smoke. Definitely don't leave during the cleaning cycle though and open the windows.
