I have an OWS in a month and my options are 1.2 and 2.4 miles ... I've done both distances previously, so I'm cool with either distance as a whole. The cost is the exact same for both. The water temp will be great (low 70s) for either distance.
The catch is that the 2.4 is a two-loop course (of the 1.2). I *hate* loop courses because that second loop is so discouraging - swimming right past the finish line and doing the whole thing over again is a real mental drag. I've got two other OWSs scheduled for this year - one 1.2 and one is the trans-tahoe relay, which will probably equate to 1.5 miles or so, but in chunks. I'm doing an 8k in October, most likely. So this is probably the only opportunity I'll have for a 2.4 this year.
Sooo, do I do this race as a 2.4 because I get more bang for my buck and it's going to be an otherwise unused distance? Do I do the 1.2 and try to race it for a PR? Obviously, I could PR on the 2.4, too ...
