I was running on April 20 and tripped over uneven sidewalk at mile 4. I had some bloody knees/hands, and a slighly scratched iphone case. Everything seemed fine, so I ran the 1 mile home. Turns out I must have rolled my ankle?
I ran on 4/22 - pain. I took the rest of the week off and ran an 8k on 4/27. So much pain! I took a week off and went to a kettlebell class on 5/6 (it's all kettlebells/squats/type of class). Pain. One more week off. 5K (glow time) on 5/11 (slow slow run). Class on 5/13. Pain. One more week off. Pain.
So really, I've worked out 5 times over the last 5 weeks? I've iced, worn compression socks, rested it (I usually work out 5-6 times a week).
I had to stop my class tonight due to pain. The pain is on the inside lower part of my ankle. The pain isn't severe (sometimes I'd almost describe it as discomfort more than actual pain). It really is "painful" mostly while working out then fades away.
Do I continue to rest/ice/compression? Do I go to a dr? I feel silly going to a Dr because it doesn't really hurt (except while working out). If I go to a dr, what type?
Sorry this is long. I'm just totally frustrated. I want to run and kickbox and lift kettlebells and play on the TRX! Gah! End whine.
Also, I think after you've gotten it healed, you should consider adding some training that would strengthen the ankle---I teach barefoot fitness classes and I used to have a horrible post-sprain ankle for years and now that I work out 3-4x a week barefoot, my ankles are super strong now.

Thanks! I keep thinking I've rested long enough after the week, and obviously that's not the case. It's hard because theres no pain or discomfort after 24 hrs, so a week always seems way long when there's no pain.
I'll call a dr. Reluctantly. I'm heading out of town to CA (wine country) on the 25 to the 3rd, so I'll just drink lots of wine and not work out.
