I don't post here usually so please excuse my massive kid sigs
But I wondered if I could ask you smart ladies which running shoes you wear? I have worn Asics for years but I'm wondering if there's other good brands out there? I just keep buying the Gel Kayano. But the heels are fraying so fast and it's really annoying me.
I had mizunos for years and found that they lasted really well. I also felt that the sole was starting to feel too thick and clunky and I wanted something lighter so I switched to asics and had the same heel fraying problem that you mention. I want my shoes to last longer than 125 miles without fraying, so I'm now running in sauconys. I like them just fine and the seem to be holding up ok, but I only have about 100 miles on them so far.
I'm hard on shoes - I'm heavy and I run on rough trails a lot of the time. I don't expect perfection, but I did think the asics were a bit too flimsy for me to buy again.

I'm glad to hear it's not just me!! For a while I was taking my shoes off without undoing the laces (bad, I know) so I thought that was causing the fraying. But the next pair frayed just as badly. Another complaint (and this is petty) but the laces are SO DAMN LONG. I always have to do double knots and even then they drag on the ground.
Ok, I will check out some Mizuno and Saucony. How was your sizing in those, compared to Asics? Thanks:)

I would recommend going to a Local Running Store (not a sports store big chain) and get fitted. Tell them what you have been wearing and the problems you have had with them. They will get you into something better that works for you

I've been loving Brooks lately. I second going to a local running store. Pretty much every major brand makes good shoes, it's just a matter of finding the best one for you.

grk2012 I thought I was the only one after seeing the shoe post the other day. My closet is filled with Nikes. They have just been the most comfortable ones I've found. Even though I did try the Brooks Ghost 5s on the other day and they felt nice. I still went back to the Nikes.
I switched from Asics to Saucony. The Asics were too tight for my funky toes. Sizing was the same, just more toe room! I have the Ride 5's and they are a smooth cushy ride!

I consistently find Asics to be the best fit for my gait. They don't make the cutest shoes, but I did get some fun purple and neon yellow ones recently. Function over form, although good form is a bonus

I very much so agree with that! That being said, I love my Mizunos and Sauconys - both trail and road shoes.

I've had the same problem with heel fraying in Asics! So annoying! I also had the same problem in a pair of New Balance shoes, but it didn't happen as quickly.
My current running shoes are Mizuno, and I really really like them. I will probably get Mizunos next time.
Thanks ladies for your input! I went to the LRS and got fitted. Went back to Asics, after trying about 10 shoes. Hopefully they won't fray!! the heel seems a bit more reinforced this time? Maybe they had some feedback.
I wear Asics Nimbus. It took me so long to find the right shoes for my Goldilocks feet that I will wear them for however many miles they are good for. I think my current pair is about 160 miles old, and they are still in fine shape so far.
