I ran a 5k this evening at 6:30 in Mt. Pleasant Pier, SC (Charleston). It was by far the hardest (aka HOTTEST) race I've ever ran. This was my fifth race overall and fourth 5k. I did a 10k last month back in PA where I live.
I signed up for this race months ago while we were planning a vacation down here thinking it would be "fun" to do. We've been down here since last Sat. and since then I actually ran my first very slow 10 miler (14mmm) and a 3 miler on the beach. As we've been down here for a few days, I knew how humid it was but thought my adrenaline would carry me through. Yeah, not so much.
It was around 85 with who knows what % humidity. It was a very small inaugural race, no more than 75 people I would guess. We ran along the road on a to and back course. It was so hot and luckily I brought a bottle of water with me, there were no water stations set up!! For as hot as it was, that was very shocking to me. But then again, I'm a Yankee so maybe they're used to the heat down here!?
It took all I had to make it to the finish. The worst part was you had to run past the Finish line on the other side for another half mile or so before looping back to the Finish line. Talk about a major tease!!! I thought I was so close. Anyway, I finished 33:44 definitely up there with my slowest time. I was hoping for a sub 30 today since I've been gaining distance in my runs but that was wishful thinking!
A few pics before the race. I was a hot mess after I finished so I'm glad I got a couple of pics beforehand!
Congrats! You did a great time with those weather conditions! I also list the temp/humidity on my race spreadsheet so I can see how my time was affected. It offsets those "bad" times.
They have a 10k that crosses the Ravenal Bridge and it's a blast! You should plan another vacation for the spring.
Why do race directors think the summer is a great time for night time/ twilighter races??? I've made this rant before, but I don't understand. IT IS HOT AT 6:00 PM and it is still HOT at 8:00 PM. / end rant
Great job on the race and you look cute in your Gap top!! It is crazy that there wasn't any water.
Aww, thanks guys for the outfit love! I have to give DH credit as he actually helped me pick it out! The tank is from the Gap and shorts are the LLL speed short in inkwell.
great job! I remember doing training runs while I was on vacation in Key West...in August. Each 3-5 mile run turned into a 1-2 mile SLOW jog, because it felt more like swimming than running. OOF!
