Hello lovelies! What's in your beach bag (or whatever) this weekend? It's a holiday weekend for those of us in the States.
I'm reading American Gods and am about halfway through it. I like it but it's slower going than I expected. I'm trying to figure everything out as I go and it takes time.
I'm listening to Catch-22 and the audio production is fantastic! This reader is amazing. It took me a while to get the hang of the narrative structure but now that I have it's hilarious.
We'll be going up to my parents' on Sunday afternoon for a cookout thing with my dad's side of the family. That's really our only plan for the weekend, which is nice. I need to SLEEP and catch up with stuff around the house.
Still working on Anna Karenina. I'm 7/9 of the way through (not that I'm counting pages or anything). It's picked up a bit more recently (as in, there is more on the actual characters and less on the politics of farming).
We're going to go look at houses this weekend. I'm sure our realtor loves us, but in a hot market when things come up you have to look (and at least we gave her a choice of anytime Saturday or Sunday, so we're trying to be accommodating!).

Do you like Neil Gaiman's other books? I've read Stardust and Neverwhere and couldn't really get into them even though they're supposed to be my type of books. I've heard lots of good things about American Gods but am hesitant to try after those experiences.
I'm reading The Edge of the Earth by Christina Schwarz, which I am enjoying a lot more than I expected. Also venturing into my very first ebook -- I got an ipad mini for my birthday last week, so I'm discovering the free classics. I am working on finally finishing a reread of Jane Eyre on there. I started with an ancient paper copy that was my mom's, but it's a little fragile and difficult to read.
Nothing much planned for the long weekend: lots to do around the house, work on spiffing up the bike we inherited for DD.

Still working on Dan Brown's Inferno. He has those ridiculously short chapters. About chapter 21 is when it picked up and got interesting. I can't remember the page number but I'm not that far in.
I don't have anything major planned. Also need to sleep and clean my house!

I'm still working on The Cider House Rules (which is really good), but I have the new, fluffy Mary Kay Andrews (Spring Fever, I think it's called?) packed for my beach trip this weekend. I also still have to finish Fareed Zakaria's Post-American World. I read a bit here and there when I'm in between fun novels.

I'm about halfway through Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. I'm really enjoying it, but now I have to burn through it quickly because And the Mountains Echoed is waiting for me at the library to pick up. Good thing the weather looks cruddy here this weekend.
I finished When a Scot Loves a Lady last night for my June book club. Now I get to choose for myself. I will probably start Daddy's Gone a Hunting by Mary Higgins Clark or The Happines Project. Plus, I am a month behind on my magazine reading - I need to catch up or cancel some subscriptions!
This weekend is busy. I have a massage tonight after work. Wine tasting and plant buying Saturday with another couple. Possibly followed by dinner and board games. Sunday we will plant our garden and in the evening to the horse races at the local casino/track. Nothing on Monday - thank goodness!
Just finished the latest Sookie Stackhouse and Beautiful Bastard. Waiting for a day off to go to the library and pick up books. I have no more books to read right now except what is on my nook.

The only other Gaiman that I've ever read was Good Omens, which he co-wrote with Terry Pratchett. I loved that one, but I adored Pratchett when I was in high school/college, so it's a little hard to tell from that book whether or not I'm a Gaiman fan.

I'm still working on I Want My MTV, an oral history about the first decade of MTV. I'm really enjoying it.
Tomorrow is my birthday, so I'll be celebrating with cake and margaritas. We'll probably hit the beach on Monday, but otherwise, it will just be the usual weekend errands.

I read the last Sookie Stackhouse book last night. It was a bit chaotic, but I was satisfied.
My kindle informs me that I have 25 more hours to go on The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I'll be reading that for awhile. I'm enjoying it so far, but I wonder if I'm going to get tired of the author inserting his political/philosophical views so blatantly.
We're doing a blend of socializing and catch up stuff around the house. Oh, and I have to work on Monday, but I'm not sure yet for how long.

If I skip the last two and read this one, will I be lost?
I'm afraid yes. Not so much lost as you'll have missed large parts of the series story arc for both the murder mystery and the personal life of Sookie and her friends. Reading detailed synopses of the two books will work for the plot references, but you won't get the feel of the plot trajectory.
Maybe someone else has a different opinion? At least 4 of us have read it by now.
I'm reading Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks. I read another book by her, Caleb's Crossing, and this is similar. Sort of bleak and historical, but beautiful at the same time. I'm about half way done.
We're going to NYC by Amtrak this weekend. Time to read on the train! Going out for my husband's birthday dinner tonight.

The weekend is going to be fairly relaxing. It's not a holiday weekend here, but other than going out for pizza tonight, we have nothing planned. I like easy weekends.
I'm reading Sweet Revenge, A Lady Arianna mystery. I'm enjoying it so far, though I'm only 8 chapters in. I do have a big issue with it in that I do not accept the author's premise that chocolate, in the form of candy was easily available in London during the Regency Period. I have no doubts they had drinking chocolate, but I do have questions as to whether solid eating chocolate was available, even to the Prince Regent. I just don't think that is accurate, and certainly not according to the history of Cadbury and other English chocolate firms as presented in Chocolate Wars. But historical license aside, I am enjoying the book.

I'm reading Voyager (Outlander #3). I've been meaning to return to this series for awhile now. As with the previous two books, I'm totally sucked in already. I can't wait to see where the rest of this one goes. I just love the characters in this series.

I'm late to this as I just got back in town last night. I read The Great Gatsby over the weekend and saw the movie with my sister. Then last night I started reading Tears of the Moon by Nora Roberts on my flight home. Book two in the Gallaghers of Ardmore trilogy. I'm enjoying it so far.
