I'm really annoyed by the meme of the woman mourning at her husband's grave. You're not allowed to meme that picture and extort her grief to fun shame memorial day, dammit! You're worse than the BBQers.

It wouldn't be so bad if the same people posting the damn pics weren't also planning their bbqs and cocktails. That's why they irritate me. Don't show off your AW "patriotism" and then feel all good about yourself when you know damn well you'll be drinking a cold one with your friends/family, giving little to no thought about your stupid fb meme.

"I know! While I appreciate the job that the military does, I don't feel like I should be guilted into celebrating them for a job they choose to do"
I signed up for this board just to say what an ugly, low-life piece of crap you are namasteak. I'm going to re-post your comment all over the web today just to show what a complete, worthless waste of this country's finest you really just are. Guilt-ed into celebrating? You need to get out of this country, you're not welcome here! And take anyone who thinks the way you do, ugly, heartless retard!

I wanted to take the girls over to the Pentagon to see all the motorcycles meeting up for rolling thunder, but I just did not get my act together in time, hopefully next year.

OMG... That is EXACTLY it.. The notion you think everyone who lost their life serving this country did so from their on free will is outrageous. Vietnam comes to mind... You either went over there or moved to Canada. You statement might be the ugliest remark I have ever seen in my entire life. And to think that pawn of yours remarks "*cue screeching record sound*" This is sooooooooo unreal to me??

You haven't met very many people if Nam's remark is the worst you've ever seen.
Aren't they fighting for Freedom of Speech? Isn't she allowed to have her opinion? I find it sad that she is being called names by people because her opinion is different from your opinion.

nama: it's remembering the dead. That isn't too much to ask. Through most of our country's history there has been an active draft and most of those soldiers who died were conscripted into service. An "all volunteer military" is a very recent phenomena. (The quotes are because the nature of opportunity and recruitment tactics make me feel like the decision to enlist is often not a freely taken, fully informed decision. The barriers on exit are also high. "All volunteer" is more illusion than fact.)
Roberto: We don't need a "love it, or leave it" diatribe either. The military fights for the whole country - including those who may disagree. Sure, that can be problematic (on both sides) but it is the reality. You shouldn't enlist if you can't defend those with whom you differ.

But her opinion is wrong. Like, factually wrong. And also, embarrassing.

Actually, my comment was more a reflection of how ridiculous both her comment and your hyperbolic response were, but thanks for trying!

Plenty of opinions are factually wrong. Being factually wrong is often legally protected and certainly not grounds for expulsion from the US (which is what roberto called for).
(ETA: vanillacourage later points out that I misinterpreted the target of her statement and so my comment is stupid. I was just going to let it lie but this post is 20 f'ing pages long and I can't let it sit out here all week unacknowledged.)

Yes, thank you for this. I was having a hard time forming an articulate thought. Lol. Obviously the military is close to my heart, but I would never deny someone the freedom of their opinion.
Faling to recognize the significance of a day of MEMORIAL, for so many who have lost their lives, and so many who did it without a choice in the matter, is pretty damn crass, and quite frankly disrespectful.

??
My calling her opinion factually wrong doesn't amount to endorsement of Roberto, if that's what you're implying. At least not any more than I take your post to be endorsement of nama's OP.
