DH and I were at a nice restaurant for dinner over the weekend. When we got there the person at the host stand took my coat and gave me a ticket.
After dinner we picked up my coat, which was given to me by who we assume is the manager. This person was telling the host/hostess what to do and also came and checked on us during our meal, which lead us to believe he was a manager. I gave DH some cash to tip this guy for my coat and then also the valet for the car. DH felt that as it was the Manager who got me my coat we shouldn't have tipped him, but still tipped him because I asked him to.
What do you all think, do you tip the person who gets your coat regardless of being a manager? Or only if it is the host/hostess?
Meh, I rarely have cash so I often don't tip the coat check person. Especially if I don't think there is going to be a coat check so I didn't come prepared with cash.
I would tip whoever handed me my coat. Maybe that manager puts tips into the coat check tip jar, who knows. Agree that at $1 per coat, it's not even worth thinking about withholding the tip.
