Woohoo! The new stores are REALLY nice, too. The isles are nice and wide, there is a great prepared food section, so much nicer than the "older" stores.
The one in Chelsea is a "Flagship" store. It's right around the corner from my office. Only go if you have a) nothing planned for the next 2 hours, and b) patience.
So much cheaper. Seriously. Almost everything I buy is $0.50-1.00 cheaper at MB.
Agreed. I feel like if something costs $3 regularly at S&S, and will go on sale for 2 for $5, then it is regularly priced 2 for $5 at MB. That's true for a lot of things on my list.
I think the produce is slightly higher quality at S&S, but you pay for it. Also, the deli meats are way more expensive.
I only shop at S&S for sales or convenience (if I'm close to one already and only need a few things).
Yay! We save so much money at MB. I can't believe we used to shop at Shaws. No other options when we lived in Waltham!
I used to drive to Burlington when I lived in Waltham to go to a MB, and I lived right next door to the Shaws.
Ha, that's funny! We ended up doing the same thing once we moved in together. It actually forced us to start weekly meal planning. We'd go up to the Woburn mall on weekends, have lunch at Panera and shop at MB. It seemed dumb to drive that far, but I swear our food bill dropped by like 30%. We also lived right near the Shaws on Trapelo Rd (Windsor Village).

Windsor!!! I lived there for 3 years Then I moved to Moody street. I also went to college in Waltham. There's actually a MB in Woburn and one right on the Burlington/Bedford/Lexington line. If you take back roads through Lexington, it only takes like 15 minutes from Waltham. That's the one I used to go to, although I have been to the Woburn one a couple times.

Small world! My H lived at Windsor for like 4 years (and I pretty much lived with him!). We officially moved in together for like 6 months (ride out his lease) and then moved to a condo complex on Trapelo. I live in Burlington now, so we frequent the MB there. They redid that MB like 2 years ago, now it is beautiful. It used to be small and crappy, so we went to Woburn bc it was bigger. Now we LOVE the HMART behind MB too!
Moving to Cambridge tomorrow. I WFH so I can go whenever. I once went at 7am on a weekday and it was still crazy. I've gone at 10am on a Tuesday... I was just curious.
Generally though I try and hit up MB whenever I'm out of the city, whether that be Gloucester, Salem etc coming back from skiing we will stop in NH and do a huge stock up. (lots of big, new nice stores farther north that arent insane to shop in)

I've been to the one in Burlington twice, and the one in Londonderry (old and new version Demoulas, as my H and his family still call them) a couple of times, and every single time I've sworn I will never go back. It's cheap as shit, though I suspect I would make up the difference in prescription Xanax if I had to shop there on the regular, heh.
I went to Russo's tonight... 1st time thanks for the suggestion!! Arrived at 530 and it was a mad house b/c they close at 6pm. But I got lots of fruits and veggies and the selection and variety was great. I didnt have to really look at everything and lines were long but ill definitely be back.

I heard they were opening one in Waltham as well. I think on 95 right next to where the Polaroid building was (is?). Not sure how true it is though. I like Russo's but shopping in there makes me crazy. The aisles are super small and there seems to be no real order to how people go through the store so everyone with carts are up each other's asses the entire time. If I am just getting a few things and can just carry a basket it's a lot more pleasant.
The daughter of the owners of Wilson's is a friend and old sorority sister of mine, so I am a bit partial to Wilson's (except the ridiculous chaos of their parking lot).
