...but we came home from visiting DH's aunt and uncle (who are moving this week) with:
*One four year old Kitchen Aid mixer with 2 attachments
*Two Le Crueset skillets, a roasting pan and a brasier or french oven (I haven't really looked)
*Assorted amber glassware-including two bowls that match or coordinate with pieces that I already have.
*A very modern green glass bowl
*Two wooden candlesticks (modern), and four tea light hanger things that you use in glasses.
*Old Christmas ornaments (my picks from boxes full of very old glass ornaments)
*An alabaster lamp that is over a hundred years old (needs a new shade)
*Two lamps (that need new shades) that are either awesome or hideous...not sure which (lol), or if they will work in our house, but we liked them and wanted to try to make them work. They paid $1800+ for the pair. How crazy is that?
*A rattan chair in nead of a new paint job. Nice lines, but I wish that I had taken a picture of the totally 'Golden Girls' fabric on the cushions before we tossed them into the charity pile that our aunt had going. DH is having a hard time visualizing how it is going to work with the more modern furniture that we will have in the same room, but I think it work well.
*Several quilts and quilt tops that DH's grandmother (or maybe great grandmother) made. They are not in the best shape, but I am either going to make pillows or something for family members, or I am going to send most of them to family members who make quilts to do something with on their own.
*And two or three garden hoses and one gigantic hose reel (that had to come home strapped to the roof rack of my suv-lol).
Bonus-they have a Trader Joes there so DH made a Trader Joes run and stocked up on some of our favorites. He forgot a few things, but overall he did pretty well. Now I get to figure out how/where to store it all.lol
It was nice to see them, but it was like a flashback to our last week in our house in CA. Still packing after the movers had come and gone, rattling around in a house that echoes, trying to figure out what to do with the last stuff there......it was weird. Especially since their stuff went to storage the same day that our stuff came out of storage.
We left our house of boxes to go to their almost empty house. Bringing home more stuff when we haven't unpacked yet seemed crazy, but it made DH's aunt happy that she could give us all of this stuff. I turned down a ton more, and tried to only bring home things that we thought we would actually use.
sounds like you got some nice stuff. I'll be interested to see how the rattan chair works out. at least you are still setting up so it's a good time to integrate the new to you items.
sounds like some great stuff! PIP the lamps for sure
Right now they are wrapped in bubble wrap, but I am kind of afraid to unwrap them to see whether they are hideous or fabulous, so I am leaving them until we have more of our stuff unpacked. lol
