I was minding my own business and she blurts out "Did you hear about the man who put his 6 week old baby in the freezer?!" and I kind of went off on her. I don't want to know that when I'm quietly minding my own business. I told her it ruined my morning and I didn't care to hear that kind of thing randomly out of know where. She's always telling me all these awful news stories and I got sick of it. She went down to HR crying. I went in there later and HR lady rolled her eyes and had a "talk" with me. I wasn't in the wrong, she mostly told me what she said and said hopefully she won't do that again. Is it Saturday afternoon yet?
isn't it amazing how much people want to allow negative into their lives? i say good for you for setting reasonable boundaries and not being afraid to let your co-worker know you don't need that kind of mental contamination in your life.
i am a very sensitive person, often referred to as over-sensitive and i can't imagine feeling the need to cry over a confrontation like that. well, unless she is someone that struggles with IF and can't deal with the thought of someone doing such a thing with something so precious as a baby they themselves aren't able to have at the time......
Ha! She went to HR to tell on you when she was in the wrong! I'm glad you made her cry since, really, that's what she was trying to get you to do. Why else would anyone share random, terrible news? Jackass (her, not you).
And she's always flaming people about things. She preaches eating organic and uses only natural soaps but smokes and drinks. Apparently when the tables are turned and shes the one getting flamed she can't take it.

Man I wish I had HR to cry to! (just kidding)
I got half a lecture on "you need to cross sell more" (something I was upfront with my boss about being awful at when I started working here part time last year) and half a lecture on being nicer to my dumb coworker (which will happen when she can process a payment without asking 20 questions on top of insisting she learn EVERYTHING IMMEDIATELY - I'm not cruel or anything, but I finally snapped last week and told her I could not do 2 people's jobs PLUS train her if she wasn't going to retain something as simple as processing a payment) and then received a raise. Yay?
I've thought about this off and on for several hours now. I'm just dumbfounded that she went to HR over this. Unless you totally ripped her a new one over what she said, for her to go to HR is really, really, really - can I say really!! - extreme.
Good for you WOP! People are so dumb. I have teachers at school who whine to HR about the damndest stuff too. It's like do your job! My principal has started saying to the most annoying one, "You really should be working and not talking." LOL. That's what I tell my kids.
On the farm I am HR. I upset the whiniest of employees on the regular (Re: E. Student) Get to work dammit. E. Student turns us into the Exchange Office all the time. First it was not enough time to call his mom on break. Now it's I don't like my vacation/day off schedule. I need to time recover! I can't rest from the busy day before and get prepared for the next all in one! Office just types back lately, "Change your mindset." Ha!
