MFP is telling me that I'm going to burn like 750 cal at bikram tonight. this seems crazy high to me. I'm thinking about wearing my HRM to bikram tonight just to investigate but I'm worried the watch is going to get in the way/be annoying.
has anyone wore a HRM to bikram before? what's the calorie burn like?
yeah, but we're laying on the ground for at least 10 of those minutes. I think I"m going to wear my HRM to class tonight. for science. will report back!
mfp is ridiculously high on most of their calorie burns. Kickboxing, for example, registers as 750ish, while other sites (calculating effort and age) put me at 500ish.

I entered my heated vinyasa class as around 350-400 calorie range for an hour. Figured I would rather under estimate. But I did have to enter it manually into MFP because the only yoga in the datbase was Hatha. I always wanted to take an HRM to class once just to compare. But I thought it was silly to buy one just for that!
I had to take a knee a couple of times because I got stuck in the hot spot and it was extra humid today. But it was not 250 cals worth of knee taking.
Yeah, it's humid here, too, and I had to come close to sitting out a few times yesterday. For that one where you lean back and grab your feet, I almost passed out just standing on my knees! I never arrive in time to get one of those spots by the window
Also, my MFP doesn't recognize bikram! Did you put it in yourself?
I just searched for it yesterday and found an entry. I have looked for it before and not found it so it must be new.
kams 500 is pretty good but really not much more than I would burn brisk walking for 90 minutes. but my primary motivation for doing bikram has never been the calorie burn so I'm all good. I'm sure you could hit 750 in one of those power hot yoga classes
Yeah, a lot of what I found online stated that you don't really burn any more calories than in a regular yoga class (like 200-300 cal/hour). It just feels harder because of the heat. I always estimated around 500 cals for my 100 minute class. Good to know I wasn't far off!
