We extended our concrete slab, twice in our back yard. Both time involved relocating sprinkler heads. My husband installd the sprinkler system, but the concrete guys relocated all the heads for us to the location of our choosing for no extra cost. We priced out a lot of options for extending our slab, and hiring professionals was even cheaper than DIYing the concrete ourselves.
Depending on where the lines run, it shouldn't be too difficult to relocate the head somewhere else along the line. You won't need to have the whole system redone.
We did a large stamped concrete patio a few years ago. Our slab before that was TINY and we wanted to have a second patio area (we have an upper deck as well). We love it and it's seriously been one of the best investments in our home. We get compliments on it every time we host a gathering. Moving/adjusting and capping sprinkler heads is no problem at all. If you hire this out, the right person will be able to do this with no problem. Here's a blog post I did about our patio- It shows the slab before and the patio after! www.jhawks482.blogspot.com/2011/09/around-fort.html
