I just realized I only have $10 cash on me. I am using a groupon for the cut, $30 (regularly $60). I normally follow the 20% rule which would be $12. TBH I'd probably just round up to $15 but I don't have $15 and if I go to the ATM I have to pay the charge which is probably $3. I hate ATM charges.
WWYD? Is $10 way cheap? Who knows if I'll go back there again but what if they give me an amazing cut then I only have $10 to give them and then can never go back in case I get a hack job next time coz I'm pegged as a cheapie?
I think the rule is 10% for professional services. But I always tip my hairdresser well because I love her and will let no one else touch my hair. I regularly tip her 25%. I think $10 on a $60 service in this case is NBD.
I always do 20% for the person who cuts my hair and 5% to the person who washes my hair. I would get some cash just in case, which is not what you wanted to hear, but better safe than sorry.

I would buy something so I could add a tip or buy something at cvs like THE lipstick or a pack of gum to get another 5-10 bucks. i loathe atm fees and would rather spend hte fee on something like gum or candy

I would probably stop so I could do 20%, especially since you are potentially getting a big style change. I usually just leave one tip and let my stylist tip out if has someone else wash my hair, but I see the salon owner so I know he does this for sure.

I used to be a shampoo girl and stylists didn't tip us out. But we were also allowed to have a tip jar out. I don't know how it works now because my stylist has shampooed my hair for the last 10 years or so.
The place I get my massages also does hair and they do the envelope system.

$10 is fine normally, buuuuut with a groupon they may be making jack shit, so in that case I would tip the extra $5. A salon I worked at ran a groupon and the hairstylists were working for tips alone on that deal. Shitty situation all around, but groupon can really hurt people like that. Groupon always takes 50% of the money in a deal, so the salon in that case is only getting $15 per person. I doubt the owner is giving the stylists much.
