I am using latch. Maybe I'm just dumb. The part of the carseat that's against the seat doesn't move if I push it, but if I push on the head rest end it will move a great deal.

That sounds strange but it's hard to visualize. I feel bad you are messing with this seat. It was so close to being awesome.

The only movement that matters is the "belt path" so it sounds like it might be okay?

Yeah only belt path movement matters. There should be 1 inch movement per side.
I'm trying to install it and can't get it tight enough. I've never installed a convertible, so I don't know exactly what I'm doing wrong. Chicco's website only has a video for forward facing install.
monkeybabe, agree with PPs - only check for seat movement at the belt path. If there is no more than 1" of movement, it's fine. There will be movement at the top of the seat, and that is normal and okay.

This.
We have 2 convertibles. One moves a lot at the top part and the other has a special anchor thing so it doesn't move at the top as much. It kind of bothers me when it moves at the top because I am used to the infant seat but it is okay for it to do that.
It's working well for us. I loosen it to get her in and then tighten it most of the way up without snapping anything shut, because it's way easier to tighten that way. Once it's mostly tightened I snap it all up, adjust the chest clip and make sure it's snug enough. I wonder if it'll get easier with time and use.

I'm glad it is working for you! I've tried the same thing with no luck, so frustrating.
