Our boys are at church camp this week and the camp nurse called and said they had taken W to the ER because they thought he had broken his arm. The ER sent him back to camp and said it was not broken but they wrapped it well, ice on it etc. About an hour later the ER called the camp nurse and said they had sent the xray to a larger hospital that actually had a radiologist to read it and there is a small hairline fracture on the wrist.
I will be glad to lay eyes on the kid tomorrow afternoon when they return and see it......I pray its not bad because they are supposed to leave in a week with my ILs for a scuba trip to Belize -- which will suck with a broken wrist I would think....
anyone have any words of advice or had this happen to them? was it put in a cast? How long to recover etc?
Wait, I said "was a klutz." That's should have been I am a klutz. Except I haven't broken any bones as an adult. Just sprained an ankle or two and plenty of bruises.
Yes. I suggest a real cast. I had a removable one which was convenient but I took it off wayyyyy too much and didnt let it heal well. It still hurts because I was impatient. It hurt but was functional. I can just imagine a kid having an even harder time keeping a removable one on.
when I was 6. In a cast a month or so. can pop it on command now. kids heal fast! worst part was the cast up to my freaking armpit for a wrist fracture. it ITCHED. when they sawed it off, my arm was 1/2 the size of my other arm, shriveled, and covered in pen marks from all the pens and crap I shoved down it hahahh
I had two when I was a kid. The first time, my mom thought it was a sprain and didn't take me to the doctor for three weeks. Both times it was put in a cast for about 6 weeks. It healed fine. After the cast came off, it was in a splint for 2-3 weeks.
It was on the same hand, sometimes my wrist is sensitive/sore for no reason and I think it's from the fracture. In certain kinds of weather and stuff.
