I took the test on Thursday and have been looking online waiting for the results to pop up and they never did, so I called and the guy said they are in but I have to wait for the Dr. on call to call me back.
My hospital makes us do the 2 hour test because a lot of people can pass the 1 hr part, but end up failing the second 2 hr part... So, I am worried. Last time I passed the 1 hr part by 35 points, but only the 2hr by 8 points.
On an unrelated note, Sprout was on this morning and they have a happy birthday section. I saw twin girl names.....Heaven & Nevaeh. I know there is a board-wide love for Nevaeh, lol. Creative, huh?

Oh my god, that is SO awful. Did someone really name their kids that? It just makes me sad.

Omgggg so they have my results, they arent showing up online, the Dr is really busy and 'might' call me back if she gets a chance and/or if my results are 'critical' otherwise I need to call back tomorrow. Ugh!!

I assume critical is if you failed, so if no call you passed? That is how I'd take it at least!

This is how I would take it too. Trust me they call right away if they don't like your numbers.
She messaged me saying I do have gestational diabetes. I'm so upset and crying. I bet you I passed the 1 hr part but failed the 2 hr part. The Dr. said last time that my weight was 'out of normal range' before I got pregnant and mentioning gestational diabetes to me, and now I feel like it's my fault and I am a huge fat ass or something. I know this is a common pregnancy problem for people to have but I am really upset!!

You are not a huge fat ass... At all. Not even close. You are beautiful and the pregnant pictures I've seen of you make me jealous because I never looked that good. I am so sorry that you have gestational diabetes. What happens now? Hang in there. It will be okay!

I'm so sorry honey. If it makes you feel any better be glad it was detected. They think I may have had it while pregnant with Christian and it went untreated. Needless to say he ended up in nicu for 8 days due to low blood sugar and other issues. He came at 37w weighing 9 lbs 9 oz. An early baby shouldn't have been that big and I charted so I know all the dates matched up. I'm sure I'll have to be watched closely during my next pregnancy.

I'm so sorry. It's nothing that you did or didn't do. Don't beat yourself up.
I talked to the Dr. and she said I only failed 1 of the 3 parts, (they draw your blood before, an hour after, and an hour after that) and you only need to fail one to get the diagnosis. I guess I failed the 1 hr part. Which, is confusing to me because I thought that at other hospitals that offer the 1 hr, if you fail it doesn't mean you have GD till you do the 3hr. She said that is not the most accurate way of testing and that is the 'old' way. Ugh, whatever.
She said I have to go on a strict diet and check my blood sugar levels 4 times a day and if they are controlled then I can check only once or twice a day. If it is not under control with diet, I go on medication.
She made me feel better and said it was due to the fact that I am having twins since the placentas can interfere with your body's ability to process sugar.
It was the other Dr. that I saw last time who said I should only gain 25 lbs with twins since I am overweight and don't need any fat stores for breastfeeding because I 'already have those.' I thought it was ridiculous because I am not THAT over weight and that person I saw before said to gain 50lbs! 25 for twins seems so stupid. There are two babies, two placentas, two bags of water, hella blood... wtf? And then she was bringing up the GD and it just all made me feel shitty. I was really, really hoping to prove her wrong and not get GD! Oh well.
First of all, 25lbs for twins? What?! That is ridiculous! And that is awful what The dr said about already having fat reserves for bfing! um excuse me??
I'm sorry you have GD but like BEH said, be thankful it was found and can be monitored. I hope since it seems mild it will be controlled well with diet.
I'm sorry you failed. Fwiw, my bff had gd and the strict diet wasn't that bad, just very specific. The high risk board on the bump has a lot of gd mommies. And a big wtf to that weight gain. Besides that being on the low end of one pregnancy, you are having two! I'd see a nutritionist and tell that other doc to piss off.
jnoellee Hey lady I had GD with my kids. It was mild, I controlled it with diet. It started at 25 weeks for me. If you have it don't worry!! Get a meter that takes minimal blood though if you can the one with Lite in the title was far less blood than the original they gave me and easier to deal with. I just saw that you tested + for GD. I had the same happen with only one number out of range. Very common with multiple pregnancies (my kids were small btw so macro babies from GD is not always the norm). You will probably see a nutritionist. When you do the tests (which can be overwhelming 4 times a day (seriously see if you can get the Lite (I think it was Freestyle) request this one!!! Accucheck Nano sucks balls). Make sure you press it into your finger not do it lightly because you may not get enough blood and have to do it again (this happened with the Nano for me not the Lite, which they decided to give me at the end!! fuck them!) hahaha. Anyways, alternate fingers but go for the sides and not the middle of the finger (sides are less painful) use index, middle, and ring mostly, (thumb and baby hurt me more). Diet consists of just a healthier diet. I had a lot of english muffins with eggs in the morning, I did protein shakes (I needed to gain because my babies were small). Basically it's like a weight watchers type diet I think. I gained about 42 pounds with my twins (was told between 30-50 would be normal). I started at 5'6" 138 (average weight) and went to about 180 at 34 weeks, 2d. If you have any questions about GD definitely ask! You want to follow the diet they give you so you don't end up on insulin! Hugs!! You can get through this!!
