Patsy and I finished redoing our front yard this weekend. We've been working on it on nice weekends for a couple years, haha. We both hate mowing and especially hate edging, so we removed all the grass and replaced it with plants we like.
I didn't think to take a "before" picture of the yard, so I stole google street view (hi scrunched, discolored car!).
Our hydrangeas and salvia haven't bloomed yet, but it should be really pretty when they do.
Once all the ground cover fills in (a year or two-ish), you won't be able to see the mulch anymore. It'll just be a mass of plants.
Looks beautiful, you guys did a great job. I'm so over our landscaping, I've been day dreaming about condos, but then I remember I hate dealing with neighbors.
We have a landscaped ~1/4 acre front yard and it's awesome. We pay landscapers to come in once a year to do a big spring cleanup and it looks reasonably nice all year with no work on our part (well, we watered ~5 times last summer bc it was so dry, but that was it). We have a small fenced section of our backyard with grass, then a much larger section that's forested (an acre total). The grass takes 10x the maintenance of the rest of the yard!
1. I want a yard. Or a terrace. Or even a fire escape that isn't only accessible through a back window. 2. Your yard looks awesome. 3. How cute is your house?
Looks great! our HOA takes care of mowing and planting the front yards but we have attacked quite a bit of the backyard... half has bark chips and a play structure and the other half has grass but quite a bit less than there used to be and more plants. Makes for better bird watching too.

The salvia attracts hummingbirds! I can't wait for it to bloom. It likes the heat, so they don't bloom until the summer and then we have hummingbirds fighting in the front yard. I've had them fly into my head while weeding.
Looks great! I love hydrangea and Japanese maples. In fact, those were our "must haves" when we met with our landscapers after buying this house. And, they put in salvia, too! Apparently, you should go into landscaping design!
