Multiple questions about it: Has anyone made their own? I don't want to pay for Annie Sloan if I can successfully DIY it myself.
How easy is it to use? What kind of prep work do I need to do?
I have a few furniture pieces I want to paint. One is an Ikea piece that is wood painted white. Another is my old kitchen table that I cut the legs off of to turn into a coffee table. It's wood and has a shiny clearcoat, but I really don't want to sand it if I don't have to. And then there are my family room tables. I sanded them down, but apparently not well enough, because the dark stain is seeping through the white latex paint I used and causing it to peel. They are a hot mess and I'm dreading trying to fix them.
I haven't made it, but I have seen it done with paint, unsanded grout and water. Seems like it is pretty easy...mix and stir, and don't make it too thin. Or too thick. ;p
I always think sanding, even lightly will give you a better finished product. It just gives the paint a better surface to adhere to. Even a deglossing liquid would be better than nothing.
