I'm pissed. Friday we had a swarm of bees roll through the neighborhood - kind of freaky in general. But scary for me since I'm allergic to bee stings and the sight of a dense cloud of death buzzing toward my house is not exciting.
Anyway of course they picked my house to make their little honey hive in. They found a little break in the stucco at the roofline and i can hear them in my walls. it was just like I won the lottery, only the opposite
So being a good Samaritan, I wanted them relocated and not exterminated, so I called a couple if bee keepers that were recommended on Angie's list and yelp. One dude called me back at 7am Sunday morning, and then three more time before 10am. Despite being annoyed that in the only day this week my kids slept until 7:30, I got woken up by a bee keeper phone call, I figured he was eager to get them and surely would show.
Alas, I am stood up and the bees remain comfortable. Grumble.
called twice. I don't think he's coming. What to do? I could only find 2 bee people and 1 didn't call back, 1 didn't show. I'm not sure I want someone from Craigslist messing around with my stucco - but i don't want to just call an exterminator. harumph.

Hopefully this has been resolved by now, but if not you might see if a local university or county has an extension office. Ours has a beekeeper on staff who will collect swarms. Good luck and be safe.
Oh no He didn't get back to you? What is the problem beekeepers?? I have one other resource I can try for you. We have a local beekeeper, and he might have suggestions. I like the extension office suggestion too. Though I've never contacted ours...
ETA: Actually, he's in our garden club, which is awesome, so I'm just going to e-mail the entire group for suggestions. I'll forward you whatever I get.
You are my bee hero @juno. I think it's lucky they are in that garage wall- someone can take our a piece of drywall and get the bees, then when I'm sure thy are all gone i can patch it up.
EDIT: the SF guy got back to me! He gave me two referrals, so ill try them both.
Well, I haven't offered anything helpful yet, evidently. I'm a failed bee hero I can't believe this is so hard considering where we live!
ETA: Awesome! I wonder why he didn't want to do it? Is he out of the business? Or maybe you're out of his area? Anyway, he was really good for us, so hopefully his recs are just as good. I'll leave my feeler out there on my garden group and send you recs if I receive them.

Called one of the referrals this morning and he's in my garage now! Total beepocolypse in the garage- they are not happy! but not too extensive a hive (so they definitely moved in when that swarm turned up) so he put the queen in a box and is allowing the other bees to settle into the bee box overnight and he'll retrieve them early in the morning!
The best part? His only fee is a donation to the bee keepers association- even with the drywall removal and everything!

Glad you got it resolved and I'm not surprised you didn't have to pay (except the donation). Bees can be expensive to buy, especially established hives, so it's a good deal for the beekeeper to get them for free. Hopefully you can breathe easy now that they are gone.
