I guess if he is comfortable with it, then more power to him but I would think the same thing. Compromised immune system and a giant tank full of poo = ruh roh
If your septic has a ground cap then yes just pumping, unless there is an issue. If there isnt a cap he will have to dig down about 3-4 feet to pump it. This happened to us when lived in our house about 6mths. The septic was supposedly inspected and pumped when we bought the house. Nope, I had 5 years worth of shit on my bathroom floors. And yes the joys of cleaning that up will be all yours. my guy recommended a cleaner called odoban.
This isn't a good situation. If he needs the money then I guess it's good the church didn't dump him. It is not like you can pay him and do it yourself, I am pretty sure you need a professional for this. I assume he takes precautions and you aren't the only house he services . . .but oh. Poor everyone involved.
You would probably be surprised how many people get chemo and go to work. They need the insurance and money. Plus, how they feel and their immune system can really depend upon where they are in the process of chemo.
A lot of people continue to work while undergoing chemo. A coworker of mine scheduled his chemo for Friday afternoons when our office is closed so that he wouldn't miss work. He was already pretty bald so most of us didn't know he was sick until he was gone. It was kind of weird.
Good luck cleaning your place out. A septic system back-up is no fun.
My mom worked the whole time she had cancer and was undergoing chemo. Granted, she wasn't cleaning out septic tanks or anything like that, but yeah, she couldn't just not work. My family needed her income, and her insurance.
It sucks for people like that man though, who are not just doing some kind of desk work, but are literally digging feet into the ground, and dealing with poop, all while being extremely sick, and tired from the chemo and cancer. Maybe you could at least tip him some cash? or fix him some cookies or something?

also, in case you havent been told yet, make sure you only use scott tisssue and dont flush anything besides that down the septic (no paper towels, kleenex, tampons, etc). and use ridx once a month.
My FIL is getting daily radiation and chemo treatments and still goes to work daily, golfs, etc. If he feels well enough to work, I think it's fine and even normal. Granted my FIL doesn't work with poop, but still.
Yeah, that sucks but people do what they have to in order to keep some normality in their lives.
DH did the same thing. Go to chemo, go to work. He did work with poo but he was getting exposure to all sorts of horrible chemicals (benzenes & the such) that he thinks are the cause for his illness.
