I need a new laptop. I have always had HPs, and they have been acceptable. I think I need an Apple, now.
It seems for the price, I can get more for my money with the pro. I don't care too much about the weight. This will be the most used computer at home. I do not do crazy things on my computer - word processing, photos, internet. No games.
Any opinions on the air vs the pro? Or am I just being seduced by the fruit, and should I get an HP that is cheaper?
I am kind of lalala about computer stuff. I just use it. So break it down simply for me please
I've always loved apple computers but could never justify the price tag. You're paying upwards of $500 extra for it! Really ask yourself if it's worth THAT much more.
Actually, given what you've said, I'd seriously consider getting a netbook. You can get a decent Asus or Acer for ~$300. They're quick and good at doing what you mentioned -- word processing, internetting. And as long as you don't mean hard core photo editing, just normal uploading and viewing, then they're fine for photos too.

I have the macbook pro and really love it. I thought about the air but in the end I am happy with the pro. Howeverrrr all I want is a white macbook regular! Why did they go away!?
Also, make sure you check out what "ports" any computer you get has. Make sure you can plug in anything you need to be able to plug in -- external keyboard/mouse, a monitor, your camera, etc.
I used to have a Pro, but now I have an Air and I love it. The only drawback to the Air is no disk drive. But I have never found that to be a problem. It is so light and easy to lug around in one arm and the baby in the other.
That's my debate, shevacc, is it worth it? I feel like I always overbuy on computers. You know, on the off chance I might become a professional video editor and need the capability.
I keep comparing the air and pro, and I keep leaning toward the pro. I ALWAYS hear of people loving their pros, TrudyCampbell - I want to have a love relationship with my computer, lol.

Hmmm...and I can get an external disk drive, right?

Yep, you can. I decided I'd get one if I found at some point I wanted/needed it. Hasn't happened thus far.
Macbook pro! If you are or have any family who are teachers they might be able to get you an educators discount. I did that for my mom when she got her macbook.
I have the MacBook Pro too, and recently replaced the hard drive with a Terabyte version (I take a LOT of pictures), so that's my vote.
BUT. If you do go PC, skip the HP and Dell and go straight to Lenovo. HP and Dell have a lifespan of 16 months. Really. (in a business environment, so you'll get longer at home) You'll typically have to replace them more often. Lenovos warranty is at least 2 years, and I *think* you can get 5. They're not sexy, but they're really sturdy. IMO, a better purchase.

I still vote Mac though :-)
Agree with Lenovo if you go pc. My H is super techy and that's what he uses.
