Student Jonathan Zehavi said he felt they were targeted because they are an identifiably Jewish group.
"They treated us like we were terrorists; I've never seen anything like it. I'm not someone to make these kinds of statements," Zehavi said. "I think if it was a group of non-religious kids, the air stewardess wouldn't have dared to kick them off."
God, imagine being stuck on a plane with 101 high school students and 8 chaperones. I'd need more mini vodka bottles than they stock, I'm sure.
RIGHT?! Early morning SW flights for me = Kahlua & coffee, especially if I'm headed to Vegas with multiple bachelor parties on board. 101 HS kids? I would skip the coffee.
Considering the teacher/chaperone said the flight attendant was flustered, and the unbiased passenger said the kids were being little shits, I bet these kids were fucking awful. And THEN to imply that it's because they're Jewish? Please.
And that obnoxious kid is the one who called CNN to report on this horrible, horrible discrimination against obnoxious teenagers to whom rules do not apply.

Stewardess? WTF? My father's 80 and wouldn't use that term.

The unbiased passenger was in business class - in the front of the plane - and the rowdy kids were in the back. I question how much he actually saw.
I've been on a plane where ONE person wouldn't sit down. It was annoying, they held up the flight, etc. TEN people? Them being "10 out of 101" doesn't matter. TEN people not sitting down, not listening- that's a major disruption.
I'll be curious to hear more about this, but right now- I am side-eyeing the kids AND the school.
I was on this flight, and was waiting for this to hit the news, though I did not think it would be CNN. The first commotion came from the lack of overhead baggage space, the students brought way to much stuff to carry on. The attendants were having to go row by row and forcing some students to check their bags. Some of the students were not happy, and I could see and hear the back and fourth from my seat. As this was happening a few students were up and about, which upset the attendant also. She got worked up pretty easy, but I don't blame her. Around this time the captain came on the overhead and said to comply with the attendants as they try and situated everybody for the flight. But for one reason or another, things seemed to get louder. From what I was told, cause I could not see from my seat, another attendant confronted another student for a reason I don't, who also became unruly. I think the flight crew has some type of communication system for situations that could become troublesome. Because soon after that the seatbelt lights came on, and the captain said something over the intercom again, then I see him and the attendants about 10 rows up confronting who I think was a chaperones.
About 10 minutes later the captain came on the intercom and asked everybody to calmly deboard the plane row by row, that it was a non emergency. It was in the terminal that we hard by word of mouth that a flight attendant felt threatened by a couple of students and the flight crew asked those students to be removed from the aircraft. The chaperones informed the flight crew that they could not abandon the students. The flight crew was adamant in not letting those students back on the plane. The chaperones took the position if you kick them all out, then you have to kick all of us out, because we don't have permission to fly with the group separated. So, the airline told them take it or leave it. So, technically they were all kicked out cause they refuse to go on without the whole group

If what was left in the comments is true, then it's absolutely the kids' fault. It makes sense now why all of them were kicked off instead of just a few. I can see not being allowed to leave a few of them behind.
And planes aren't that big. If you turn around and peer over the top of your seat you can see all the way to the back.
I was on a flight with a huge group of HS kids on a school trip. It was AWFUL. They were completely unruly, not obeying rules, loud, obnoxious, pretty much all around horrible. My sister and I were on the last leg of a 30 hour journey coming back from India that had already been horrible. I couldn't believe our luck, all we wanted to do was get home and we had to deal with kids leaning over our seats to talk to their friends, kicking our seats, yelling across the plane, the guy next to me was looking at porn the entire flight, they would not stay in theirs seats. I wanted to cry. That group was lucky they didn't get kicked off the plane.
My thoughts: I have no sympathy for the HS kids. They need to GROW UP and act like adults. I don't blame the flight attendants one bit.

Seriously? I thought this particular behavior ended in elementary school.
LOL from the comments - I don't think this comment is going to have the effect this kid is hoping:
I am a student from the school, who didn't attend, and the flight crew was absolutely wrong. First of all the man can't be reliable because he made up that there were only two chaperones when I was in school and there were 8 teachers absent due to senior trip. Second of all i heard from kids that i personally know would never deny or lie about it that the crew over exaggerated and only a couple of kids were noisy and talking, but in no way disrespectful to the crew. What do you except that a bunch of seniors excited about a tcp will remain quiet the whole flight.
also I was totes an old lady at the ripe old age of 16. We were in D.C. for a family vacation and there were a bunch of other teenagers from a school group in the same hotel running all over the place, monopolizing the pay phones (I wanted to use my calling card to call my boyfriend, lol), and pressing alllll the elevator buttons.
I went to the front desk and complained, not like it did anything, lol.

AirTran only has a curtain between Business Class and economy, and their planes are not that big. He could have seen plenty especially if there was an arguement of some sort.

And judging from that comment, it seems that the chaperones were indeed sitting apart from the kids. I judge the hell out of that - they get to relax away from the kids while the kids wreak havoc in the back? Hells no.

You'd think so, but no! It was SO annoying. I think it was a HS basketball team, mostly boys.
I do think its possible that everyone overreacted, flight staff included. BUT I have rarely, rarely seen a pilot get involved so I'm inclined to agree with the airline here.
Here's the other thing: flight attendants do not start getting paid until the aircraft door is closed. All that time boarding, helping people put their bags away, etc. is completely unpaid. You get the captain involved, everyone gets off the plane, it takes hours to get the situation resolves - all that is time that you're working for free. Nobody wants to do that just for funsies. It's in the FAs personal best interest to just get everyone on board quickly, get that door shut and get the plane up in the air.
It's possible that the crew overreacted, but they didn't just do it for the fun of it. They literally paid for it, personally.
