Charlie woke up this morning wheezing a little bit. Seemed to feel ok though. Picked him up from daycare and its worse. Noticed when I was changing him tonight that he is retracting when breathing.
As I was making the decision to take him to the after hours clinic he fell asleep. DH is at the movies so if I took him I would have to either bring the others (not ideal) or ask my neighbor to watch them.
If his breathing is labored at all, I would take him in. Can you lift his shirt and check for "belly breathing"? When DS2 (who has asthma) is having difficulty breathing, he "belly breathes". Basically, his stomach sucks far in and pokes far out as he breathes. (I hope that makes sense). This is generally a good indicator for him that his oxygen level could be low, and he likely needs at the very least a breathing treatment.
Sorry that's so long. If I can help more, feel free to tag me or PM me. Hope he feels better soon!
If he's retracting while breathing and wheezing, take him in. It doesn't take long for little ones to go into respiratory distress.
ETA: I have asthma, DD has asthma and I'm pretty sure DS is going to get an asthma diagnosis. We've had emergency room trips and urgent care trips and they always say if the chest is retracting, go in.
I would take him in. Two of my good friends have little ones with asthma, and it doesn't take long for them to get in distress (even with my friends using albuterol,, etc). I say don't mess with breathing issues. Keep us updated!
Took him in and they did two bear thing treatments there. Didn't help much so they sent us to the ER. They said he is having an asthma attack. He is hating the breathing treatments! Poor thing.
Glad you took him in and he is getting treatments. Lillian has 2 inhalers for wheezing and coughing. He will start to feel better soon, I think the steroid treatment, if that's what he got can take some time to work. Lillian fights the treatments at home but at DC they say she is really good. Keep us posted!
We're home now. We are on breathing treatments every 4 hours for the next week. We had a dr appt this morning again, then sent for a chest X-ray, then back to the dr today. Long day. He is good after the treatments then his O2 levels drop. Blah.

But, glad we are home!!!
I'm glad you got him taken care of but I'm sorry he needs so much intervention. Asthma stinks.
DS2 was like that as a baby and we were in and out of the hospital/dr a LOT. I hope he gets better soon and stays that way! Breathing issues always scare me.
Glad you're at home, and that you have a plan. (That always helped me, the not knowing how/what/when is the WORST!) I hope he gets to feeling better and that you can both get some rest today after all this. It is exhausting to be in those situations, especially when you have other kids to look after as well. Hope he's on the mend soon!
Sorry your lo is going through this b won't keep the mask on and hits my hand away if ihold it in front of his face so now I put him in the stroller and hold it by his belly button and the most rises to his nose while he watches a video on my phone. If I do the inhaler I have to hold him down with my legs:( did they give any steroids?

We taught DD to take it by using her favorite stuffed animal. We modeled how Curious George would get a turn and breathe, then she would. She was a bit older than our LOs, but it helped. DS actually thinks it's funny and tries to chew on it.

Oh, gosh, sara, how scary! Glad you are home now but sad it's been such an ordeal! Hope sweet Charlie starts improving soon. Hopefully the treatments help!

Yeah. Steroids for 4 days too.
Thanks girls!!
He's ok with the mask. He cries, but the dr seems to think that's good since he is breathing more deeply. I think being home with the tv as distraction should help make it easier.

We did this with Owen when he needed to take the Flovent (whatever the orange inhaler is). After the first few times he took the aerochamber like a champ. He liked to mimic us pressing down the button thing.
