My husband's bestie and I go out to dinner a couple of times a year, and we try to find a new place each time. We were emailing back and forth this week, and he's all, "We can go to this place, but I know we've been there before." The menu and photos didn't ring a bell with me and I convinced him to go there to help jog my memory. It turns out he was remembering the wrong place and neither of us had been to this place.
But OMG I had such a good meal at Tryst on Mass Ave in Arlington (kitty corner across from the UU church) I have to share. He started with a cheese plate and I had a dish of assorted olives that I could have made a meal of (I actually brought the leftover olives home with me; I've never taken home leftover appetizer before). For a meal he had "Pig under a brick" or something like that -- it was a pulled pork that was then reformulated and recooked under a hot brick with a little thin layer of (yuck, brace yourself) pigskin that the heat of the brick rendered and made crispy, kind of like chittlins. It was really good. I had a bowl of tagliatelle bolognese with veal, pork and beef and oh my goodness it was really good. I had made tortellini for my kids before hand, and I brought home the leftover sauce so I could have it with leftover tortellini for breakfast tomorrow.
We had exactly zero room for dessert, so we passed, but if I were to have had dessert it would have been the butterscotch tart in a chocolate crust with caramelized bananas.
My husband and I used to say that a trip to a restaurant was successful if we both liked each other's meal, but we liked our own meal better. This place definitely would have passed muster for him.
My friend had two glasses of wine, and between the two of us we spent $96 including tip. It was omg good and I highly recommend (parking sucks, though, so there's that.)
