My friend is complaining about his 4 day old not sleeping. And people are telling him it gets better. Haha should I tell him it doesn't always get better?! Jk I'll be nice.
On that note- Laney didn't nurse until 630 this morning!!! She was awake for a while last night but she wasn't really crying, just whining and trying to settle in and she finally did on her own! Hope this is finally the start of better nights!
ETA: she's only 4 days old and it was their 1st night at home. And she is under 5lbs- so she needs food!

Oh my gosh, haha. My BIL who has a baby coming any day was saying he is really going to enjoy parenting after the baby STTN. I was a little tipsy after a few margaritas and I told him how many 1 year olds I know that still don't STTN. He is in for a wake up call... literally!
I agree that you shouldn't burst that bubble (not that you would). The lie I planted in my brain was the only thing that kept me sane. At 3 months, when he wouldn't come close to STTN, I kept saying, "By the time I go back in the fall, he'll be STTN. I can do this." At 6 months, when I went back and he still wasn't STTN, I though "Oh, a few more months, and we'll get this down pat." Middle of fall, still not there, "By 12 months, he'll be STTN. I just know it."
Womp womp. Summer break is here (in a few more hours), and he was up every 2 hours last night. Right now I'm thinking, "I can do this, because I'm on break. Surely, he'll STTN by the time I go back in the fall." .... Right?

I did/do this with Calista too, being a second time mom I was like I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I looked forward to 12 weeks, since that is when things start to change and get better/ then I was like maybe at six months she will sleep better cause of food, at 9 months because she will be tired from moving around, then she just has to be sleeping through the night at a year, because come on, she is one! Yup, she has slept through the night all of twice since birth. Someday.
I just try to inform new/to-be parents that Owen is an outlier. Most kids sleep better.
A girl on my FB with a newborn posted something along the lines of "trying to figure out how much to feed my kid so she's not wanting to eat every 3 hours". I was like whut?
