We have 2 pugs (ages 8 and 3) who have slept with us from the beginning. But they seem to be getting older and restless with age, constantly licking the air, each other, scratching and shaking the bed, etc. We just can't sleep with them anymore. Between a toddler and them, we were getting no sleep and were super grumpy.
They are crated during the day when we work (9 hrs), and we do leave them out in the house when we are gone for less than 6 hrs-ish on weekends/evenings. We started crating them at night and I just hate the thought of them spending so much time in there. They do fine and don't howl or bark in their crates, but they don't go in easily at night either. I'd love to have some nice dog beds in our room so they are at least close and we can cuddle before bed.
Does anyone have any tips/resources for tranisitioning dogs out of a bed and onto the floor? Or should I just keep them crated at night since it works and get over the doggy-mommy guilt?
