I went a few years ago. I wore a LBD with a blue pashmina, and I felt under-dressed. Most of the other ladies there were wearing black tie, long dresses. Picture what you would wear to a ball or gala.
See, I was thinking this place was fancier than for what those Zara dresses would be appropriate...
OP?
.
According to the website it is fine dining. Men are required to wear jackets so I think the dresses from Zara may be too casual
Right, men are required to wear jackets, not suits. To me there's a difference. But, definitely go with whatever you're comfortable with. I personally wouldn't wear a dress that I'd wear to a wedding, I'd wear a step down from that. If you feel like dressing up more, go for it.

Holy cow! You can forget my suggestions. This is out of my league. LOL.

Really? I had no idea it was that dressy.
OP, please post after you go and tell me about every single thing you ate so I can live vicariously through you. A wine country trip with a dinner at the French Laundry is one of our top 5 must do trips. A chef friend of ours can get us a reservation easily, so for us it's just getting to the point where we don't feel so shocked at the price of dinner Hopefully in the next year or so!
I would just wear an elegant, classic cocktail dress that you can wear to other functions someday. It's fancy but California style. I would probably wear a simple lbd and then wear some fun shoes.
I agree, but think she still looks better than Julia Roberts.
Celebrities tend to get a pass on dress codes at fine dining establishments. The Chef's would rather have them seen there in anything than not at all. They have to get press and celebrities are the easiest way to get it.
I would do some form of a cocktail dress with a nice piece of statement jewelry and great shoes. Look at Kendra Scott, Sheila Fajl, or Amrita Singh for ideas on statement jewelry. Think less along the lines of wedding cocktail dress and go with party type of cocktail dress.
I've not seen tuxes and ball gowns at the French Laundry. A cocktail dress or a dressy pants outfit is fine. Jackets for guys. Have fun! If you love food and really great service, you will love it!
