This is like the bestest news EVER for DH! He's been working on it since high school and he'll finally reach his goal!
DH is going to get commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the Air Force! He'll be going from a SSgt to an officer in a few short months
For all you non-military types, this is a huge jump in promotion. HUGE.
I'm so freaking happy for him! We actually met through ROTC in college, so he's been trying to become an officer longer than we've been together. He was disenrolled from ROTC after his mom was diagnosed with cancer and he took on two full time jobs to pay for college so he could take the burden off her. He never told anyone WHY he took two jobs, but because it conflicted with the classes and PT (even though he had a 98% on his fitness tests), they let him go. I remember him being so absolutely devasted about it. He has been applying to boards and for every officer slot in our guard unit he was eligible for since that day. I literally jumped up and down at my desk when he texted me. I'm not excited that he'll have to be gone for 6 weeks, but it is a small price to pay for him to achieve his dream. I've been like this since we found out.
Lurker here, but as a person who grew up an Air Force brat, with a husband who did 20 years, a brother whose an active duty pilot, and a retired O-6 dad who now works for DoD as a civilian, my entire life has revolved around the Air Force. This is absolutely AWESOME. CONGRATS to your DH and you. Very, very impressive!
As a former Navy wife and MIL of a Navy Lt who grew up Air Force with highly ranked parents (which is why he's Navy) that is huge for your DH. Big big congratulations. Dinner tonight, wine and celebratory sex are all in order here.
