Does anyone have any recommendations for a sunblock for a baby? She will be 6 months old soon and it's fucking hot here so we will be out in our pool a lot or out on the boat. We intend to keep her in the shade but its inevitable that she will see some sun and we want her protected. Bonus points if its something I can get at target or trader joes.
BabyGanics for body and Aveeno Baby facestick for face. Both are very protective and low on the chemical rating scale thing ETA: both can be found at Target
We use Neutrogena Pure Baby. My understanding is that you want it to contain Titanium Dioxoide or Zinc Oxide so that it just forms a barrier on the baby's skin instead of being absorbed into the skin.
Coppertone Pure and Simple is tear free and gets a good rating on the safety scale. I have also used baby Aveeno and liked it too. Oh and this Coppertone formula contains Zinc Oxide.
We used to use Badger religiously, but now we use Episensical. It's the same rating for chemical safety, but it's not quite as thick and pasty so it's easier to rub in.
You can get both at most natural foods stores or at drugstore.com.
My old pedi actually warned against using anything before one year (although recommendations are for under 6 months, I believe), but after that I used Badger sunblock. The Neutrogena Pure and Free baby or whatever irritated my DD's eyes and skin like crazy.
