I'm an out of shape lazy butt and am thinking of dusting off my old bicycle and taking it for a spin. The last time I tried (a couple years ago), it hurts my lady bits/butt area so badly.
Should I get a gel cover to go over my existing seat? Or do you think one of those big comfort / cruiser seats would be better? TIA
Yeah, get padded shorts, and be ok with the fact that you will still be a little sore for a while. Putting your weight on such a small area will not leave you feeling like you sat on a couch - that is normal! Don't expect that anything will change that. The idea is to get your butt used to it.
I recommend trying to find a bike shop locally that carries 2-3 brands of women's shorts. That way you can find some that are comfy. If you have a REI nearby, that is a good place to start.
Is it a women's specific saddle at least? It's not totally necessary but it does help. Besides that, time in the saddle and bike shorts will help a ton.
